Mississippi St holds on to beat Kentucky 28-22 Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen came to the postgame press conference, sat in his chair, adjusted the microphone and then let out a strange noise that was somewhere between a scream and sigh of relief. The Bulldogs had picked up their first Southeastern Conference victory of the season. But it wasn't easy at all. Mississippi State beat Kentucky 28-22 on Thursday night at Davis Wade Stadium. The Bulldogs built a 21-7 lead in the first half, but couldn't secure the game until Kentucky's last drive fell short at Mississippi State's 29 with 21 seconds left.
Nick Saban criticizes Bama fans Alabama suspended the block seating privileges of 20 student organizations on Friday, a day after coach Nick Saban criticized fans for leaving early during games. Saban commented on his radio show Thursday about fans leaving early during the Tide's blowout wins. "My sense of it is, I always say the fans are a part of the team," Saban said, according to the Anniston Star. "Everybody else should have the same sort of commitment. You don't have to do the work all week, you don't have to practice, you don't have to come in at 7 in the morning and leave at 11 at night, you don't have to do any of that stuff. "All you have to do is come to the game, drink beer, do whatever you want, party in the parking lot. I've never been at a tailgate in my life. All I'm asking is that you just come and have fun and stay for the whole game." Read more http://espn.go.com/college-football...ma-crimson-tide-punish-students-leaving-early
No. 5 Missouri thin at quarterback The quarterback situation for No. 5 Missouri just got precarious. The Tigers are already without James Franklin, who is out for at least two more weeks with a shoulder sprain. Now reserve quarterback Corbin Berkstresser is out indefinitely with a torn medial meniscus in his left knee. The school said Friday the injury occurred Oct. 15 during practice. He had arthroscopic surgery Thursday and is expected to be on crutches for a month.
T.J. Yeldon, No. 1 Alabama run over Tennessee One thing quarterback AJ McCarron and No. 1 Alabama won't stand for is being labeled something as mundane as "the red team." They prefer the defending national champions, thank you. The Crimson Tide hammered that point home with Saturday's 45-10 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers, who used that anonymous label as a motivational ploy during the week. McCarron said he took that personally and "wanted to come out and score as many points as possible on them" and not leave the game whatever the score. "For (them) to kind of say we haven't deserved their respect to call us Alabama, they call us `Red Team," McCarron said. "And for their head coach to come out and say they can play against anybody, I don't think we're just anybody. "We won two national championships in a row and we're undefeated right now. So we're not just anybody." Indeed, Alabama (8-0, 5-0 Southeastern Conference) has outscored its last six opponents 246-26 Read more http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=332990333
Connor Shaw rallies South Carolina by Mizzou in 2 OTs Hobbled by a sprained left knee, Connor Shaw asked Steve Spurrier if he could play Saturday night at Missouri. The South Carolina coach obliged, calling on Shaw in the third quarter down with the Gamecocks down 17 and starter Dylan Thompson struggling. Shaw threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns in relief, engineering three fourth-quarter drives and helping the Gamecocks score on their final five possessions to stun No. 5 Missouri 27-24 in two overtimes.
No. 13 LSU pulls away from Furman with big second half Unhappy as Les Miles was with two turnovers in the first half which helped an overmatched foe keep it close through halftime, the coach could only criticize his team so much. Odell Beckham Jr., Terrence Magee and Jeremy Hill still had their share of long, explosive scoring plays, LSU's offense piled up nearly 700 yards and the 13th-ranked Tigers walked out of Death Valley with a comfortable 48-16 romp over Furman on Saturday night.
Nick Marshall injured but No. 11 Auburn still cruises Auburn didn't miss a beat after quarterback Nick Marshall left the game with a shoulder injury. Jeremy Johnson needed only one play to show he would keep adding to Auburn's big lead. Johnson threw two long touchdown passes to Sammie Coates, including one on his first snap after replacing Marshall, and No. 11 Auburn overwhelmed Florida Atlantic 45-10 on Saturday night.
Johnny Manziel tosses 4 TDs as Texas A&M crushes Vanderbilt Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin didn't know if Johnny Manziel would be able to play Saturday against Vanderbilt until pregame warm-ups. "Johnny Football" didn't have any of those doubts. "In my mind I was always going to play," Manziel said. "It would take a lot to keep me off the field and away from these guys. They count on me and they expect me to be there. "This offense and this team means everything to me," he continued. "So to miss a game regardless that wasn't really an option for me." Manziel threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns in less than three quarters, and No. 16 Texas A&M bounced back with a 56-24 victory over Vanderbilt. Auburn expects Nick Marshall to play Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee says quarterback Nick Marshall "should be OK" for the Arkansas game.
Connor Shaw misses practice South Carolina starting quarterback Connor Shaw has missed practice this week due to the same virus that sidelined him at the beginning of last Saturday's win at Missouri. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said Shaw missed Monday's practice and was unlikely to work out Tuesday as he recovers from the virus. He is questionable for Saturday's game against Mississippi State.
Maty Mauk likely to start vs. Vols James Franklin's status was upgraded to questionable as his separated throwing shoulder continues to heal, but Maty Mauk will likely make his third career start as Missouri faces Tennessee on Saturday. The Tigers (No. 9 BCS, No. 10 AP) are still trying to recover from last weekend's 27-24 double-overtime loss to South Carolina, as Andrew Baggett missed a 24-yard field goal attempt off the left post.
Tennessee unsure of starting QB The Tennessee Volunteers face an uncertain quarterback situation heading into Saturday's matchup against Missouri. Justin Worley injured his right thumb and was ineffective last week in a 45-10 loss to top-ranked Alabama, which leaves the junior's status as the starter in question as he's day to day. Even if Worley is healthy enough to play, Vols coach Butch Jones could take his time in determining who will start against Missouri (No. 9 BCS, No. 10 AP). Freshman Joshua Dobbs showed flashes of potential last Saturday and led Tennessee (4-4, 1-3 SEC) to all of its points after entering the game in the second half.
Auburn Tigers respond to SEC Coach Gus Malzahn says Auburn has issued its response to the Southeastern Conference after Arkansas' Bret Bielema complained about game tape. Malzahn says he learned Monday about Bielema's accusation that the "the TV copy doesn't match the film copy" received from Auburn. Bielema reported it to the SEC. Malzahn said Tuesday "the SEC office is aware of all the details on both sides." He says the eighth-ranked Tigers will "always operate with the utmost integrity in everything we do and if there's ever anything I don't know about that's brought to my attention, we'll deal with it in a prompt manner." Malzahn declined to answer questions on the topic, but said "No" when asked if other opponents have lodged complaints. D.J. Humphries sprains MCL The hits keep coming for the Florida Gators as left tackle D.J. Humphries will miss two to four weeks after suffering a sprained MCL in his left knee, coach Will Muschamp said Wednesday. Humphries, a sophomore who had started the first six games of the season, suffered the injury during Monday's practice, Muschamp said during the SEC conference call.
No. 9 Missouri rebounds from loss by pounding Tennessee Gary Pinkel reminded Missouri players coming off a bitter loss that an SEC title game was still in their grasp. The ninth-ranked Tigers heard their coach loud and clear. "Why in the world would you ever be thinking about last week's game when there's so much out there," Pinkel said after getting a dominant and resilient effort in a 31-3 victory over Tennessee Saturday night. "A little common sense here. Are you kidding me?"
Tre Mason guides No. 11 Auburn over Arkansas Bret Bielema pulled out every trick he could think of in an attempt to snap Arkansas' losing streak. None of the first-year coach's trickery, however, was enough to slow No. 11 Auburn in a 35-17 loss on Saturday night.
Johnny Manziel has six TDs in limited work as No. 12 Aggies roll Johnny Manziel didn't like the way Texas A&M's offense was playing early on Saturday night against UTEP, so he called an impromptu meeting on the sidelines to get the unit back on track. The Heisman Trophy winner's speech worked. Manziel threw four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores in less than three quarters to lead No. 12 Texas A&M to a lopsided 57-7 win over UTEP.
Connor Shaw's 4 TDs lead No. 14 South Carolina past Mississippi State Connor Shaw passed for four touchdowns, Mike Davis moved past 1,000 yards this season and the 14th-ranked Gamecocks got five turnovers to defeat the Bulldogs 34-16 for their school-record tying 15th straight home victory Saturday.
