As a little Spin-off to what Nitro started, I pose this question:How will KG be remembered? He's had great individual awards (MVP of league and All-Star game)but little to no team success (only got of 1st round in 2003)Personally I think he's slightly overrated at this point. In his MVP year, his stats weren'r anything different, it was Sam Cassell, Latrell Spreewell, and a young Wally that pushed that team along.
Also note that he didn't just get out of the 1st round in 03, he also went to the Western Conference Finals. I had to point that out.But I think KG should be remembered as one of the most talented players, not just forwards but overall players, in the history of the NBA. There is nothing he can't do. On top of his scoring, rebounding, shot blocking, passing, etc. he is also a great guy, a leader, and a true winner - he just has never had the supporting cast to actually get the job done. Sure, the 03 Wolves were great, but they were not a championship caliber team. They had KG, Cassell, and a bunch of role players either on the decline or they just weren't that impressive. And I think Wally was out a lot that season, correct me if I'm wrong. But Kevin Garnett is easily one of the most talented players to ever play this game, he just fell into a bad organization that really doesn't seem too worried about the wins and losses. If they did, they would have gotten KG help. They claim they are now, but they did nothing this offseason except draft Foye and sign Mike James. All they did there was add 2 more score-first guards, adding to Ricky Davis and Rashad McCants? lol why? If they really cared about Kevin and really cared about winning, they would have done bigger things 2 years ago.So, I don't really think KG should be knocked on for not winning a title yet because of the piss-poor organization he's in. He should always be remembered as one of the best all-around players in the history of the league.
This is an easy question for me to answer. KG is easily one of the most talented (overall) and versatile players the NBA has ever seen, yet he just isn't a winner. I don't buy the argument that he had nothing to work with, etc., until 2003 when McHale brought in Cassell and Sprewell. The fact of the matter remains that he just couldn't get it done come playoff time. Why do you think they were so successful when they had Cassell and Sprewell? Because what KG didn't bring to the table, those two guys did. Veteran leadership, clutch play, playoff experience, etc. Garnett couldn't get out of the first round for SEVEN STRAIGHT YEARS, which is just ridiculous.Bottom line: great talent, but not a winner.
Hopefully not as a loser. He's one of the best and most versitale bigs ever to play. He's a scrawny and less badass Wilt Chamberlain. His only downfall was never being able to be lucky enough to play on a great team.
how can you say that team was pushed along by spree, sam and wally? wally didnt even play that much that season, he came back at the end of the season and messed up team chemistry. spree would be great one night and then go for 6 points the next, so how could you rely on him? and when did cassell ever play defense? how can a guy who doesn't play defense push a team along? did you watch any of the games that season? kg was the only consistent player on that team every single night, every game

What has KG done without them in the postseason? Absolutely nothing...
I agree with Bigmo. He is a great player but not a winner. Winners find a way to get it done no matter what. With all his skills he just doesn't put the team on his back and carry them. That part can't be taught, its all mental. No-one can say that Sprewell and Cassell wasn't a good attempt by the T'Wolves Management. What they brought to the table was winning and experience. Spree and Cassell are winners and thats why the team went better. Garnett Needs a leader on his team to succeed. Not better players.
