Bottom line, we deserve the government for which we voted.

Sometimes, people just need to experience the impact of their voting decisions. If people are denied care or have their lives affected by increasing premiums, so be it.

Obama is doing to us exactly what he wants done to us

Health Care. Tear down the system including the self insured employer based system and
replace it with a government controlled system. Then you can make the people buy insurance at higher prices with higher deductible and co pays so you can give the healthcare to his supporters which include young women. Progressives win with a continuing supply of satisfied voters. It has nothing to do with improving the system for the self reliant Americans, It redistributes the healthcare dollars spent to achieve his end goal. Basically shift the money spent from the older people to the young adults. The young adults along with most Black people, Jews and immigrants are his supporters, The majority of the older people do not, some even wonder, WTF?

    Immigration reforms, same deal.

Carbon tax , same deal. Read the Carbon tax bill he was pushing. It is a huge transfer of wealth to the urban poor. money for new appliances, windows, subsidies, you name it

Check out the goal for age based priority for healthcare spending.

A curve drawn of the current system has the money spent far more on the older population.
I suppose they know they will lose the current young supporters as they age but no problem, gain the support of the young as they come and stay ahead of the curve.

Now is Obama this smart? Fuck no, but he is good with a teleprompter.

Guys like this do the thinking ( his name was originally Auerbach)

Yawn. After the shutdown humiliation, Republicans control the media by returning to previous failed issues like ACA. Don Quixote tilting at windmills. They live to fight, even if they know they will lose.

Where have you been? You don't remember Reagan being called "Teflon" because nothing the Democrats threw at him stuck? John Tower? Bork? Clarence Thomas? Reagan's balanced budgets declared DOA and Democrats running up massive deficits? Democrats attaching a tax hike of some kind to every single bit of legislation passed during GHW's term to try to force him to break his "no new taxes" pledge? Clinton was impeached!

    Puhleeze.

NSA, Drones, Gitmo's still open, we're still in Afghanistan, Benhazi, upstaged by Putin on Syria, unable to get even the Brits to form a coalition of the willing, massive deficits, ballooning interest payments, decimation of medicare (by $716B), stubborn high unemployment, stubborn low GDP growth, a generation of college graduates doomed to live in their parents' basements, employers encouraged to hire < 30 hour per week workers, increased reliance upon government programs to support most of the population, a generation of inner city youth has taken a giant step back from where they were before Obama, etc.

His signature achievement is a terribly unpopular social (ObamaCare) program that has mostly taxed things to mask even higher deficits and otherwise has thrown millions off insurance roles and been a huge debacle.

He has closed the government once, and it only opened for a short while when he blinked and agreed to negotiate with republicans. He has brought the government to the brink other times and has caused our credit rating to be downgraded from AAA to AA+.

What he has proposed would be equally disastrous as ObamaCare and everyone knows it. His sycophants simply won't admit it; the emperor wears no clothes.

Otherwise, he's doing pretty well. And I like him fine as a person, FWIW.

No, I don't remember any of that. I do remember Republicans proudly inventing the term "Teflon President" to chortle about how Reagan could get away with anything in the 1980s intimidated media. John Tower knew too much from the late 70s Congressional JFK investigation and the CIA wouldn't let him become Defense secretary (Church had already been offed). Clarence Thomas? You really want to defend that retard's record since then on the Court? It was Reagan who drove up the massive deficits with his massive Navy buildup. And finally, you have creatively blamed Bush's "Read my lips" gaffe on Democrats. Nice try. Keep repeating your new conspiracy theory for a hundred years and it may catch on.

I would like to believe that. Could you expound on what it is that President Obama has done well?

Denny - there's a difference between trying to damage the image if the president, which has been around forever, and a congress employing methods to hurt the economy in order to damage the president.

Oldguy, I'll try later, I have have to take a plane now. But basically I feel he is doing well but the congress is thwarting his actions. I love obamacare, love that he got us out of Iraq, love that he killed Osama bin Ladin. I like his financial policies with the stimulus and feel much more could have been done if permitted. I love that he's holding congress responsible to reach a deal. There is tons to like, but the NSA stuff scares me, I think Obama, Bush, and the NSA may be well intentioned and wanting to protect America but have gone too far and built a KGB.

I think running up deficits deliberately was sabotage by the democrats during Reagan's terms. It hurt the economy. They were trying to damage the teflon presidency.

They were really scared of him. He was the anti-FDR guy. A former FDR democrat, union leader, turned libertarian.

I owe you an apology and a clarification. Your figures are correct. The DOD has nearly doubled spending from 2001 levels. Yes, it is almost 20% of the budget (I dont know how they figured this, as we have not had a budget from 2008 on)

I contend that the alarming part of the equation is that we spend between 6 to 10 percent on interest only. The money we spend on DOD creates wealth, jobs and boosts the economy. The money we spend on interest does nothing of the sort, it only weakens Our standing wealth wise. Makes the dollar weaker, drives up prices, devalues wealth.

Congress has passed continuing resolutions that means we use the previous year's budget. We're still using something like the 2010 budget figures, minus the sequester deal amounts.

Apparently you Republicans think you won the 2012 election. You lost very, very badly. When Reagan used to win that many electoral votes, your party kept repeating the word "mandate" for years to force your legislation down our throats.

As for the horrible 2009 budget Obama inherited from your president, here's Obama's progress.

As Mark Twain said, "There's lies, damned lies and statistics." For Obama to say that the deficit has been cut in half since the start of his presidency, while factually true, is absolutely hysterical as an indicator of the success of his economic policies. The national debt at the end of the Bush years was about $4.2 trillion dollars. As we all know, the economy was in a total free-fall as a result of the housing bust and pushing money into the system was seen as the only way to keep it from crashing. It started under Bush but went into hyperdrive under Obama. So, yeah, now that the economy is doing a bit better they're not feeding as much money into the system as before, but the national debt is more than four times what it was when Bush left office. Pretty much the same kind of goofy way of looking at things as a doctor who's botched a surgery saying that the patient isn't bleeding out as quickly as before once there's no blood left in the patient's system.
