Downie has had a ton of off the ice problems. I'm pretty sure they suspected he would have problems again. Good trade for Av's. There is no way they could possible keep playing defense this well. They have played over their head. Downie is a very dumb hockey player. He already has 36 PIM's. He always takes dumb penalties. Talbot is a good playoff guy. Great PK player. Downie for the most part has been in 2 playoffs. His one magical run of 14 points in 17 games was simply because he played with Stamkos and St. Louis who had huge seasons that year.

But the facts are that hes a 1st line player who had developed chemistry with Duchene and O Reilly. He has 145 pts in 285 games to Talbots 154pts in 515 games. Not only is Talbot simply a 3rd liner he is also very clearly on the decline he has absolutely sucked for the Flyers last year and this year so far. This label of "great playoff guy" is ridiculous, wasn't that supposed to be Chris Drury? You give me a choice between the two and I take the younger more talented grittier Downie any day.
You are on drugs. Downie is not a first line player. He's not a second line player. His career high in points is 46. He's always never healthy which decreases his value substantially. The bottom line is this. He's 26 and has been traded 3 times already. That means he sucks. You can't dispute that. First and second line players basically never get traded before 26 unless the teams have tons of talent at their position and can fill a weakness from a strength. As usual, all people do is look at points. Downie sucks at every part of the game other than the occasion goal or assist. He's dumb. He takes dumb penalties. Can't play defense. You've done this for years. Any time another team in the division makes a move that merits some credit you blindly stand against it. Max Talbot is a joke, a rapidly declining 3rd liner who cant put the puck in the net. Getting rid of him for a younger player, albeit with issues, and a much higher upside is always a good move. Downie is a losing player. End of story. The Av's got off to a great start and they dumped him. Tampa had a great playoff run and they dumped him. You can dispute it till the end of time. Teams don't keep the clown for a reason.
Didnt Downie sign with the Av's? dont think they traded him. Philly got the better of the deal with Colorado, Talbot is really in a decline cause of his playing style and probably wont give the Av's what they need. Now Downie is the better player at this point and will give philly the better long term payoff, Granted he got into a fight lastnight and now has a broken orbital bone. Saying a player is a "losing player" which is just a plain stupid statement, can be stated for a majority of the league. How would you know if Talbot is in decline? You watch the guy play maybe 8 times a year. Please. A team with one of the best records in hockey just dumped a guy to a team who might be the worst team in hockey. I'd say Downie sucks.
