I'm still here, just posting less. I found myself debating sides of issues instead of discussing topics. The former I don't enjoy much, the latter I love. I'm not blaming anyone else, I was mostly at fault. But discussions never remain for long, everyone chooses sides and then refuses to admit there is some merit from multiple directions. I'll be back, just not too enthusiastic about this place right now.
This is the 2nd or 3rd time you've told me to have some balls. It's not about if I have balls or not. It's about trying to find a fair balance in how to moderate this forum. IMO and this is just my opinion, other mods feel differently, every moniker/person should be judged on what that moniker/person has done. The sins of a previous moniker does not transfer to the new moniker. I know of two other people who have retired an old moniker and created a new moniker in order to either reinvent themselves or to put past attitudes or opinions behind. It's hard, I know Carlito is Mixum but I try my best to judge Carlito only on what Carlito has done. I think this is the fairest way possible to judge someone in this forum. If you don't think I have balls enough or am man enough to be a moderator of this forum please say so. Make a thread, have me replaced by someone you do think has the balls or am man enough to do so. Also, please stop calling him an asshole. Personal attacks no matter how justified are not allowed.
A temporary ban is the first step in the process to permanently ban someone. I think it's important and fair that we follow some sort of process.
The thing that surprises me here is the pressure put on posters to conform to to the the most vocal majority composite opinion. Very much like OL. What seems to be missing is an understanding that personality characteristics of individuals will cause them to have different opinions even if the majority do not want to tolerate lack of conformity.
That's not it at all. What is not tolerated are personal attacks. I have negative opinions about the team, I have positive opinions about the team, but if you're going to start screaming "blow it up" after the first game of the season, you're going to get a lot of shit about it.
There are people who post to provoke a reaction out of people which is very much different from posting your opinion.
I wasn't speaking to you specifically. I just think the whole banning thing is completely useless if you allow him to come back and start the same tired shit over again just by changing his username. He'll just get banned again, come back and start all over ad infinitum. Why even pretend to ban him when the ban is meaningless? He didn't reinvent himself, he just came back under a new username. Fine, if he gets to circumvent the rules so do I. I didn't call him an asshole, I called his persona an asshole. I didn't attack the person, I attacked the persona - which you just said is judged independently of the person behind the persona. Rudy may be a saint in real life, but his current and past personas suck. BNM
I was about to say how is it a personal attack when that person you called an asshole isn't even here. Hell, even carlito says he is not mixum. So I can call the banned "mixum" a piece of shit poster that should never be allowed to post here again. . Who are we attacking really?
Oh please, this has nothing to do with conformity. The poster in question deliberately trolls this forum and baits posters. Just in case it's not obvious, he even admitted it and got banned for it. Now he's back, with the EXACT same behavior under a new name. Differing opinions are always welcome. They add to the vitality of this forum. Blatant trolling and baiting are not welcome and detract from the value of this forum. That's why trolling and baiting are against the rules - allegedly. BNM
So I'm genuinely curious, do you think we should re-ban as soon as we figure out who the person is? Should we have a poll and see what the people think? Personally, I would re-ban but that's not how some people think. I just want to know how the board feels about it.
Sometimes banning works, sometimes it doesn't. In Mixum/Carlito's case it appears not to be working. In PapaG/Yoda In The MODA's case it has worked. I think it's important to always encourage ways for people to come back to this community.
It's more about other members seeing personal attacks on here and accusing the mods of not applying the rule evenly and fairly. We have to keep it black and white, no personal attacks.
That is confusing, you will not tolerate personal attacks, but blow it up will get you a lot of shit? I suppose a post of "we have the best big three in the league" will get you a rep. Golly, diehard rabid fanatics only need apply.
Well, it's attacking the post, so yes.... it's fine. And if someone posts that we have the best big three in the league, that person is kingspeed and that person isn't taken seriously anyway because he was also posting to blow it up.
To me it's pretty cut and dry. If they come back under a different username and IMMEDIATELY start exhibiting the EXACT same behavior that got them banned in the first place, they should be re-banned and their IP address blocked. They should not be allowed a fresh start with a new allotment of temporary bans. They should be held accountable for their previous offensive behavior. BNM
