Well, not sure if he quit, but the new show (Dark Matter, on Sirius radio) is no more. Didn't even last 2 months for him to pull an Art Bell. Maybe he had a valid reason, who knows.
Lot of pissed off people out there right now. Especially the ones who bought expensive radios just to listen to him.
Count me as one who is pissed. Loved the old show and the wife and I were so happy he came back. We signed up for Sirius, and he just up and quits after a month. He burned a lot of bridges this time. The goodwill is gone.
I ended up only paying for one month, so it's not a huge loss. Some people bought expensive radios and they're out quite a bit more. I think it's kinda childish to quit after six weeks because he felt that XM was losing his listening base. Not really enough time to actually rebuild any kind of loyal listeners.
I'm sure his contract was based on total listeners. The more listeners the more money. The numbers weren't adding up to what he thought they would be so he is shutting down and renegotiating for more money. It's not about kindness or loyalty, it's about money.
there's a website out of Eugene (I think? Not sure) that broadcasts old episodes all week. Uradio or something like that.
imho, going satellite was stupid from the get-go, but I think with Art, it's a combo of money and being a little odd. Yeah, he saw his baby (the show) go from nothing to one of the bigger night-times shows, only to see it replaced by a boring loser George Snory...but he (art) is the one who quit like half a dozen times. He should just do a web-based show, where people can listen on their computers/phones, and have a call in # for people. Make $ off of ads, or a subscription based basis. But since he's quit so soon now, he'd have to make the subscription not only cheap, but refundable.
It could be about money.... hard to say for sure. Either way, he signed a non-compete for 2 years so he won't be back on the air until it is figured out.
If you worked nights, you might have heard him. He had a late night radio show, usually from around 10 pm until 2 am for years and years. He is most known for talking about aliens, bigfoot, ghosts, etc, but he also talked to a lot of very interesting people. Michio Kaku is one guy that I loved hearing on Art's show, talking about string theory and physics.
completely unsubstantiated rumor I'm making up based on intel I may or may not have received from people "in the know" is that Art Bell has a severe Oxy addiction and is leaving the show due to this addiction. And he likes snorting the Oxy off the thighs of 9 year olds.
Not at all, I am just privy to the knowledge that Art and Rush are boyfriends on the DL. Also, I have dabbled a bit in remote viewing and it's quite clear from my prognostications that both these gents like spending their paychecks on Oxy and and Vietnamese ladyboys.
