se..."the proverbial source-with-knowledge"...and the story also goes on to admit that Wallace Mathews and Andrew Marchand actually have no more of an idea what the Yanx will do than we do.

...no front office is going to let their REAL intentions known, for obvious reasons...we hear the "rumors du jour" every year when the FA market opens up. These talking heads have to print something, anything, whether it has merit or not.

Losing Cano would suck, but those monster contracts strangle a team, and NY has enough, also has Cano helped them win many big games? nope, he's got ugly PS numbers.

McCann is great, so they should go after him, but he's going to have his pick of teams, not sure he's a NY kind of guy, not with the mess the Yankees are in right now.

Tanaka is a huge risk, but they really need a big arm, so it's a chance they have to take.

    Granderson? Please...

If he really is any sort of priority then this team really is as dumb as i already know that they are.

I dont want to go passed 6 years, but i have a hunch it will take a min of 7, and prob 8 to land Cano for about 200 mill. I don't like it but i also realize their chances of competeing significantly drop without him.
If they do break the bank for him, they better upgrade in a lot of areas to make it worth it during the years he will produce at a high level. If they let him walk, frankly i hope they sit back and collect their draft picks and start figuring out a way to improve their farm and development vs chasing a shakey free agent class in a half hearted attemtp to compete.

Per infor being passed on Hot Stove this AM it looks like McCann may be leaning toward Texas. They also ran comparison of Grnderson and Swishers stats after both were given qualifying offers. Pretty damn close, and MLB thinks that Swisher getting 4 and 56 mil will end result in Granderson going for the big bucks. If the Yankees want to sign Choo they won't put out any bucks for Granderson.

Didnt they just sign Soto? Could be a factor there.

...Texas has money to burn...Soto will likely a backup, as he's been for awhile. If Texas saw him as a legit everyday catcher I'd think they probably would have signed him for more than 1 year/$3 Mil.

possibly... but McCann was seeking what, 4 years at almost $60M? that would be $15M for McCann plus $3M for a back-up... $18M is insane for the catcher position...

Or even as reported here, a 6 year $100M contract for him http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/66102/gm-mccann-could-get-100m?ex_cid=espnapi_public

...Soto only got a paltry $300 K raise over what he made last year. Doesn't sound to me as if Texas has that much faith in him...like I said, Texas has a ton of money to burn as do a few other teams whose TV deals are kicking in. And yeah, I read about Boston's interest in McCann about a week ago but you never know because both the Sox and Yanx like to feign interest in players just to inflate the price and the payroll of their long time rival.

...as far as catcher's salaries, Mauer and Posey average over $20 each by themselves...just sayin'.

Not sure why Boston would be pretending on McCann. They are letting Salty walk. They have no starting catcher in place, and stand to lose some more offense with Ellsbury bolting as well. My guess is their interest is legit.

...just because a player isn't given a QO does not mean by default that the player will not be resigned...conversely, just because a team makes a player a QO does not mean the player will accept it and return.
