If we trade Aldridge I really like the Houston trade I think it's good for both teams.

How you figure? The one that Nate mentioned actually is pretty good. Way better than the Houston gig

Houston can't offer us anything without adding a third team. Asik makes no sense unless we're getting back a very good power forward in the process.

Well we get a very good center in Asik and two other bigs not to mention Jones is a Portland, Oregon native. I could really see him being a fan favorite. We also get another 2014 draft pick which is said to be a very strong draft. You don't think Robinson and Jones is enough to man the PF spot? I would rather have Parsons over Motiejunas though.

Asik is irrelevant without a decent power forward, and while I like Robinson, neither he or Jones would be even remotely good enough to make the trade worth it. You're basically handing Houston a championship and you're not getting much back in return.

Oh I really couldn't disagree more. Asik is one of the best centers in the NBA and could also be an easy All Star selection. He would push Lopez to the bench where he would be better suited. As for are PF spot. When has Portland ever been without a great PF? The Blazers are blessed with great PF and Robinson will be the next one. With Asik I doubt Portland would be the worst defencive team in the NBA. But again I would rather have Parsons over Motiejunas though.

I would consider keeping Asik in a trade, there are always good PF available in free agency and if they see a well rounded team without an entrenched starter guys would be willing to sign for cheaper and hope they can earn minutes. We don't have to remake the team in a single move.

But of course if we traded away Aldridge you look at what you can flip Asik to a third team for. I just don't think he is automatically worthless. He could potentially fill the starting spot for the next 8 years.

    LMA/Wes to Golden State
    Thompson/Barnes/Asik to Portland
    Lee to Houston.

Might be a little different, I can't remember exactly what was on it. Might have been some filler from Houston.

Second trade was Batum to Detroit for Monroe/Charlie V.

A big market team or a deep pocket owner of a contending team is probably where Asik would make the most sense. He is owed $8 million above his cap hit next summer so teams like the Knicks, Nets, Lakers wouldn't care at all about that but I'm not sure if an out of the playoffs Paul Allen would be as interested.

I think this team could still compete for the playoffs IF they were able to swing that Batum for Monroe trade. I'm not sure if that's something Detroit would be interested in, but I had seen those rumors about them wanting to move Monroe and put Smith at his natural position. Batum would allow them to do that. :dunno:

An Asik/Monroe frontcourt would be pretty good though, I think.

Probably more effective overall than Lopez/LMA

I thought the whole premise of this thread was to trade Aldridge because he's so much older than Lillard. If that's the premise, getting Asik as the major piece in an Aldridge trade doesn't make any sense. As has been pointed out, he's only a year younger than Aldridge.

But, even beyond that, I HATE the idea of trading the healthiest, most durable player we've drafted over the past decade. Aldridge's game may not be perfect, but he shows up and plays big minutes year after year after year. Given our past problems with injuries, I really hate to give up a guy like that when he's only 28 and in his prime.

Knowing our luck, we'd trade Aldridge for Asik, Aldridge would go on to to win multiple rings in Houston, play at an all-star level well into his mid-30s and Asik would immediately blow out both knees and become the white Greg Oden.

Yeah, trading Aldridge for Asik makes no sense by itself. The only way I could see Asik coming back is if we did a threeway, which brought back young talent as well. Asik would be a nice piece to have on the team. A starter-quality center is hard to come by. I hate the idea of trading Aldridge to Houston though. They really have nothing we should be interested in.

You mean the small and inconsequential age gap? Using that bologna as the premise to a trade discussion is stupid.

Aldridge isn't old. I highly doubt he's even hit his prime. This just makes no sense.

For me it has nothing to do with age. All that matters is whether Aldridge will re-sign here. If they can get him to sign an extension, problem solved. If the team is doing horribly, and he wants out, hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later. I think it will be more difficult to do a decent trade next season.

I'd also be a little concerned about Asik's injury history. Injuries haven't caused him to miss a lot of NBA regular season games (so far), but when he was playing in Turkey in his early 20s, he had knee surgery and broke his collar bone. He played in all 82 regular season games as a rookie, but then he fractured his left fibula in the playoffs against the Heat. None of these injuries seem to be recurring, but I am am little concerned that multiple bone fractures may be an indicator of brittle bones that could end his career prematurely.
