Who is the best role player in the league? I would have to say Tayshaun Prince, He fits the perfect role for any team, especially the Detroit Pistons. He doesn't do anything great but he does everything very well.He rebounds, Plays defense, Scores when asked upon. Im sure any team would be happy to have him.Other candidates:Shane Battier, Udonis Haslem, Alonzo Mourning, Bruce Bown.

Look for him to have a better year this season now that Sheed is on the decline and Ben is gone. I would say Bruce is the best, amazing defense and has a reliable outside shot.

The defination of a role player is very broad. Some say Tayshaun Prince is a role player, some say he isn't. I don't think Ben Wallace is a role player. Although he mostly plays defense and rebounds, he's too much of a star to be a role player. To consider Big Ben a role player, you could consider Dwight Howard one, because he mostly defends and rebounds, isn't much of an offensive weapon....yet.....

Shawn Marion. He rebounds, blocks, steals, he does it all.

I can't believe Shane Battier hasn't been mentioned. He hustles, he plays D, he's a good leader and follower, he shoots well. He is the definition of a role player.

Richard Jefferson is a very good role player. He plays at an All-Star level, but season after season, he's overlooked. I believe that the Nets wouldn't be anywhere without RJ helping to execute offensive moves, along with key defensive stops. Also, before I forget, Lamar Odom is also a very good role player. He has potential to be an All-Star, but he's overlooked due to Kobe's talent. However, the Lakers wouldn't have reached the playoffs had Lamar not helped the team set up offensively. Lamar plays pretty much every position for the Lakers, too. He brings the ball up like a PG, shoots (now and then) like a SG, has his natural position like a SF, and rebounds like a PF/C.

Richard Jefferson isnt a role player. He can do it all. The best role player in the league by far is Ben Wallace. Most people dont really consider him a role player because he is an all star. But the very definition of a role player is someone who is out there to do one or two specific things and is basically told to leave the rest to the rest of the team. Exactly what Ben does. I dont think there is much of an argument on this one when you consider his 4 defensive player of the year trophies. I think Robert Horry would have to be in the running as well for pretty much his whole career. "Go out there and hit the game winning shot". Pretty much Horry's role.
