The Rockets traded the rights to Rudy Gay for an established Shane Battier. Rudy Gay is one and maybe the best 'potential' prospect in the whole draft. The team obviously wanted an experienced player on the wing so they went with Battier...now...Bonzi Wells falls into their lap for almost nothing. Doesn't it kind of piss you off that you could have kept Rudy Gay looking back and still gotten Bonzi Wells. This being a team that lacks youth/athletic ability. In 2 years Bonzi could go somewhere else and Gay would be ready to play.... Do you think Houston would have still gone through with the trade knowing Bonzi would fall into their lap?
Maybe but I think they also wanted to rid themselves of Stromile Swift's contract. He wasn't playing up to it and wasn't clicking with JVG.

I think they would have did the same thing exactly. They probably will regret it in a year or two
I'm sure none of us even knew we couldve gotten Bonzi Wells in the first place... so were still lucky to get him
What if Gay is a bust huh? HE only had 16ppg in college and relies to much on his jumpshot which doesn't work out for most players becoming SUPERSTARS.

Hilton Armstrong, Marcus Williams, Josh Boone, Denham Brown, etc. And having a jump shot is not necessarily a bad thing. Are you saying he's not athletic? He is a freak athlete, he has a jumper, he's a good defender, and he has a nice NBA body. I think Rudy Gay will turn out to be a good player.

He is very athletic, but never uses it, we will see what happens with him on a Memphis team who desperatly needs a good #2 guy.
He uses his athleticism even when he shoots...do u realize how high he jumps just for a shot? He uses his athleticsm alot!!

Rudy Gay doesn't use his athleticism? Honestly - watch him play. I would love go all on you right now, but I'll let it slide lol. You have got to be kidding me though... Well Gay probably will be a star in the league one day... maybe in the near future... but wasnt he a choker in college? Didnt he always play like sh*t in big games? I dont watch college bball but I think I read dat somewhere.. we just wanted to win RIGHT now.. I think we did give up too much for Battier though.. I dont think Swift was neccesary in the trade.. we maybe coulda just gave up someone else..
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (val_modus @ Oct 7 2006, 09:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I thought we couldve gotten Mike Miller too.</div>naw.. I think Mike Miller would be too much.. maybe that one guy in the dunk contest last year... forgot his name..

We coulda got better.Plus, If we didn't want Gay and didn't think about the "winning right away" subject, We could've drafted Thabo or Brewer. Im saying Thabo because Dawson said if we didn't draft Gay he would've picked Thabo.
I still cant believe they did this. I coach college basketball and Rudy Gay was the best player in the draft this year. Freakish athelete, great shot, underrated defender, passes well, rebounds, etc. etc. etc. The only way I can see this being a smart move is if Houston is thinking about winning the chip in the next 2-3 years. Battier is a good player and his basketball IQ is one of the best in the NBA. But he is very limited as far as skill goes. If they dont win it all within the next 3 years, this was a horrible move. In 2 years, we all would have been talking about T-Mac, Yao and Gay being unstoppable. They could have DOMINATED. I was really scared when he got drafted to the Rockets because I knew the team had "dynasty" written all over it. That went out the window quicker than white women when O.J. enters the room.

I always though this forum would be like people from 14 to 20 years of age.
People were way too hard on Rudy Gay, stupid NBA analysts and draft sites have brainwashed most NBA fans into believing that Rudy Gay is nothing but a athlete who doesn't work hard and it's ridiculous. Rudy Gay was quit simply the best player available in this summers draft, nothing anyone on BBW will say can change my mind, I've been saying Rudy Gay is going to be a great NBA player for over a year now. He's been shafted by the media and in general he's too good of a guy to confront the critics. He played on the best team in the country and on a team with a great group on senior leaders. Guys like Denham Brown, Rashad Anderson, Hilton Armstrong, Marcus Williams and Josh Boone. Sure people say that great players have to take over and show inititive and that is a good point but Rudy Gay still had a very good season and all his numbers improved nicely from his freshman to sophomore seasons. Jim Calhoun raved about Rudy's work ethic and how he conducted himself. Now his Grizzlies teammates are saying the same thing about practising hard, I'm sorry but what else needs to be said about the guy? Everyone he's ever played for has great things to say about him. Rudy Gay didn't come up big when his team needed him? Sure, I guess it's a valid point but when your playing on a team like the Huskies with players that are looking to be first round picks and have seniority, sorry, your not always going to get the shot. The NBA draft people also didn't want you to know that Rudy averaged 20ppg in March Madness. I think I've hit all my points.

Hak is way more hard working than Stro, and will probably be a good player in this league. They just compared his athleticism to Stro and the fact Memphis drafted him makes people think hes the "next Stro"But Rudy Gay was in same situation as Grant Hill and Michael Jordan I AM NOT SAYING HES THE NEXT MICHAEL JORDAN(people always think I say that when I have this discussion). Rudy Gay had so many talented teammates that it was hard for the 4 other 1st rnd NBA soon-to-be's to refer to him. Plus he was the youngest(similiar situation with Hill and MJ). They said it on draft night and its true, the reason he didnt dominate was he was 19 yrs old and had to refer to 4 other older and very talented players. You will see what he does soon enough.
