I thought he played well even in game one, but had to defend the guy in a thread that turned into "what's wrong with Wes???" He's coming into his own, he's now in shape after his heart issue, and he's a solid veteran.
I did. I thought it was too much money for an "old" player coming off of his rookie season. That doesn't mean I hate him as a player. I still think he's overpaid, but what does that matter? It's not like he's a complete bust, and he's playing the best ball of his career right now. Oh, I forgot. Opinions aren't allowed to evolve here, and some of you get boners by pulling up shit from years ago.
Through 5 games, no. It's a long season, though, and he was overpaid his first 3 years in Portland, IMO. That doesn't mean I think he stinks as a player, though.
Top 10 ranking of Shooting Guards- PER 1. CJ Miles 2. Kevin Martin (best pickup of offseason?) 3. Rodney Stuckey 4. James Harden 5. Wesley Matthews 6. Jordan Crawford 7. JJ Redick 8. Eric Gordon 9. Anthony Morrow 10. Gordon Hayward Wow, if you take into consideration that Matthews is a starter and some of those are reserves, I think you could make a case for Matthews being a TOP 3 SG in this league.
As of today, it's a toss up between Bledsoe and Martin as the best pick up, IMO. Top 3? I could see it. 1) Harden 2) Martin 3) Matthews. There's def. a case for it.
And stop playing defense. And blame his smaller teammates for any failures. Both things Wes would never do.
I just had a funny though (albeit probably not original) Itd be interesting to link these threads and tweet them to the player they are talking about, and just see if they read it. lol.
Yet the team won. I'm still not thrilled about his contract, but he's grown on me as a leader and a veteran. He's very limited, but he wasn't asked to score tonight, or do much of anything, really, other than shadow Stuckey. He did that job well. That's what role players do.
Wes would have been more involved if Mo wasn't on fire. We didn't need Wes tonight, so I think he didn't feel the need to shoot much.
I was impressed with Wes, he didn't force shots or get discouraged because others were shooting. The team is giving the ball to whoever has the best chance of scoring or assisting and that is great to watch. I think some fans have always resented Wes because he outplayed Roy back when he first joined the team. No he isn't an allstar but he's a quality starter in a league with very few SG's.
I don't think the fans resent him because of Roy, but I think the fans might have higher expectations because of Roy. Wes was never signed to be our starting shooting guard, but he's done an amazing job since Roy went down.
