Laughing myself silly that Farrell did not win. During the MLB show one correspondent (Pro Farrell) had to throw in the late '11 collapse of the Red Sox in addition to all the other stuff. I know Francona maust have heard those comments. The collapse of that team was not Franconas fault. What got Boston over was Cheringtons trade of the overpaid malcontents and then filling in the blanks. Glad Francona got the award though, he was deserving.
Farrell took a last place, 69 win team and won the WS. Not sure how he doesn't win this award just like the last guy who took a last place, 69 win team and won MOY - which would be no one...
If going from worst to first doesn't get you manager of the year award, and some shit team in a weak division can come in and steel it is ridiculous. I have nothing against Francona, how many games turnaround was it for boston, wasn't like 69 wins last year, win the world series, not just make playoffs. I'm shocked.
Francona managed two Boston Series winners and we all remember without fondness 2004. Post season does not count and I believe Showalter was AL MOY in '04. And other unfortunate circumstances for our team is loosing playoffs to "weak" Central Division Teams in '06, '07, '11, & 12. Francona fully alluded to Cleveland having a "favorable" schedule but until the playoff round they sacked up.
Let's not make like Farrell took a talentless team and made them winners. While that last place team was flawed in some way it was still stacked with talent. He was given that team with the cancer removed.
...^^^yeah, and besides that. the Sox also made some very good moves/acquisitions during last off season as well as others getting healthy.
