HOLY SHIT! I've seen that video 50 times. Haven't in forever and it still leaves me speechless how it got SO out of control. Just amazing more people didn't get hurt. Children whoever......just horrible.
Anyone notice what Walton said: "They are going to have to figure a way to get this over quickly" Well, Bill. They did.
For some reason I was in our bedroom watching that game. Wife must have been watching something in the family room. Anyhow, I called her in, and we watched the carnage. I guess I know I'm a huge NBA fan, because I remember exactly where I was at that moment. Too bad it was pre-DVR (at least in my house), because I spent most of that night watching various replays on ESPN.
The Pacers play a pretty boring brand of basketball. Effective as hell, but heavily focused on the front-court. They do sell out in the playoffs though, right?
I find it even funnier that ESPN had a Detroit and Indiana game. My how the time (and greed) has changed.
I was stoned over at my buddies house, maybe a year out of high school and I was flipping through the channels and saw a bunch of commotion. Then all the players went into the stands and I knew we were watching history. I watched it over and over.
The real embarrassments here are the 2 coaching staffs, especially the head coaches. Your team's welfare comes above all else, including the game's outcome. Once it's clear the officials have lost control (which was pretty quickly) the players should have been escorted off the court for safety and to prevent what happened.
It actually calmed down before the beer was thrown. A lot of people thought it was over. Hindsight. Once Artest went into the stands there was no way a few coaches were going to slow it down. Hell, the players, coaches, and security were all trying to stop it, but it was too late. Not the coaches fault, they aren't superheroes and can stop things quickly like in the movies. The fault went to the few fans that disgraced it all. It was all but over but that one fan thought it wasn't, apparently.
Sold out, but think they had to run promotions for the Atlanta series. They also have to heavily run promotions to get the 16k they are drawing now. For me, I support teams regardless but really enjoy when they are winning.
