MLS referee Mark Geiger, three other PRO officials selected for 2014 World Cup Veteran MLS referee Mark Geiger has been selected to take part in this summer's FIFA World Cup, marking the first such call for a US referee in more than a decade. Geiger will be joined by assistant referees Sean Hurd (USA) and Joe Fletcher (Canada), one of 25 trios and eight “support duos” from 43 countries selected by the FIFA Referee Committee to officiate the action in Brazil. US referee Eric Boria will also make the trip as one half of a support duo alongside Mexico's Roberto Moreno-Salazar. Beyond those officials, CONCACAF is also represented by a Salvadoran trio, a Mexican trio and a Central American support duo of Walter Alexander López Castellanos (Guatemala) and Leonel Leal Bermúdez (Costa Rica). http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...e-other-pro-officials-selected-2014-world-cup

Brazil 3, Croatia 1: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group A It may not have been a thing of beauty, but with the weight of an entire nation riding on their backs, Brazil managed to rise to victory over Croatia in the pageantry-filled opener of the 2014 World Cup. And who else but Brazil's shining star, Neymar, whose two goals – the second on a generously given penalty – on either side of halftime gave the host country a 3-1 decision Thursday night at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo in Group A action, capped by an insurance goal delivered in stoppage time by Oscar. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-06-12-brazil-vs-croatia/recap Mexico 1, Cameroon 0: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group A Mexico got their 2014 World Cup off to a strong start with a convincing 1-0 victory over Cameroon on Friday in the Estadio das Dunas in Natal. http://www.mlssoccer.com/worldcup/2014/news/article/2014/06/13/mexico-cameroon-match-recap
Chile 3, Australia 1: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group B It was more difficult for Chile than anyone – except apparently Australia – anticipated, but La Roja hung on for a 3-1 victory after taking a two-goal lead over a plucky Socceroos side Friday night at the Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba. The tournament’s dark horse contender in many minds, Chile wasted no time in jumping the Tim Cahill-led Australians with a 12th-minute goal by star striker Alexis Sanchez, followed by a 14th-minute Jorge Valdivia goal. A Cahill header goal in the 35th minute gave Australia life as they evenly battled Chile until the end in the Group B opener for both teams, the killer goal coming from Jean Beausejour in second-half stoppage time. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-06-13-chile-vs-australia/recap Colombia 3, Greece 0: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group C Colombia made the most of their first World Cup appearance in 16 years, riding goals from Pablo Armero, Teofilo Gutierrez, and James Rodriguez to a 3-0 rout over Greece in the Group C opener on Saturday at Estadio Mineirao in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-06-14-colombia-vs-greece/recap
Ivory Coast 2, Japan 1: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group C Powered by two goals scored in a two-minute span in the second half, the Ivory Coast overturned an early Keisuke Honda goal to beat Japan 2-1 in Recife on Saturday night. Both goals were virtually identical: two crosses by right back Serge Aurier and headers by Wilfried Bony and Gervinho. They were enough to bury Japan, who could muster little in terms of a response. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-06-14-ivory-coast-vs-japan/recap
England 1, Italy 2: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group D In a battle of traditional heavyweights, the heavier of the two came out on top. Four-time world champions Italy topped one-time winners England, 2-1, on Saturday in FIFA World Cup Group D action amid the heat and humidity of Manaus. Claudio Marchisio and Mario Balotelli struck for gli Azzurri, while Daniel Sturridge hit for England. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-06-14-england-vs-italy/recap
Uruguay 1, Costa Rica 3: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group D They were expected to be fodder for the big guns in Group D, but Costa Rica refused to play their role and pulled off the first shock of the 2014 World Cup, coming back from a goal down to beat Uruguay, 3-1, in Fortaleza. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-06-14-uruguay-vs-costa-rica/recap
Switzerland 2, Ecuador 1: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group E The first draw of Brazil 2014 has to happen sometime. This was almost that sometime – but not quite. Three minutes into stoppage time, seconds from the final whistle in the 9th match of the tournament, Haris Seferovic ran onto left back Ricardo Rodriguez's cross from the corner and buried it into the roof of the net to give Switzerland a 2-1 victory over Ecuador in Sunday's Group E opener in Brasilia. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-06-15-switzerland-vs-ecuador/recap
France 3, Honduras 0: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group E France’s Karim Benzema made sure CONCACAF’s unbeaten run in this young World Cup came to an abrupt end Sunday as he scored two goals to lead Les Bleus to a 3-0 victory over an overmatched 10-man Honduras side at Estadio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre in the teams’ Group E opener. http://www.mlssoccer.com/worldcup/2...ras-0-2014-fifa-world-cup-group-e-match-recap Argentina 2, Bosnia-Herzegovina 1: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group F took Argentina a long time to get going, but once they did, they did nothing to dissuade their status as one of the favorites of the 2014 World Cup with a business-like performance in a 2-1 victory Sunday over debutante Bosnia & Herzogovina at Estadio Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro. A third-minute own-goal and a touch of brilliance from Lionel Messi in the second half gave La Albiceleste all they needed in the Group F opener. An 84th-minute goal by Bosnia’s Vedad Ibisevic made things interesting late, but the equalizer never came. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-06-15-argentina-vs-bosnia-herzegovina/recap

Australia 2, Netherlands 3: 2014 FIFA World Cup | Group B In one of the most entertaining games of the tournament, the Netherlands produced the seventh come-from-behind win of the World Cup so far, rallying for a 3-2 win over Australia, who had themselves come from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead early in the second half on Wednesday. With the win, the Netherlands move to 2-0 on the tournament and will await the result of Wednesday's second game to find out if they will qualify for the Round of 16 prior to the final round of group games. http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2014-06-18-australia-vs-netherlands/recap
