http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/42448/fielder-for-kinsler-cano-to-rangers-now I've been saying all along that I believed the Texas Rangers were the sleeper team in the Robinson Cano sweepstakes; swapping Ian Kinsler for Prince Fielder is a move that helps increase the likelihood of that happening. Yes, the immediate reaction is that this merely opens the door to play Jurickson Profar at second base; but I think Rangers CEO Ray Davis and general manager Jon Daniels have something even bigger in mind.
...I can't see where Cano would play, unless of course, the Rangers also trade either Profar or Andrus. ...I don't think Cano has as many serious and viable suitors as some people suggest. This trade actually hurts his leverage in the market, and the "10 year/$310 Mil" thing doesn't help him either...probably scared some teams away....but who knows.
If Texas really wants to make a big splash they could use Profar and Moreland in a trade for Price from the Rays and then go after Cano? Who knows what will happen with Cano or the Yankees at this point.
^^^ I think the only way for that to happen would be if Texas made it contingent on them being able to lock up Price for a few more years. Texas just got rid of one 2Bman to make room for Profar so I gotta believe that they'd rather have Profar at 2B and having him under control for the next 3 years than have to over pay for Cano. And you just know that the Yanx are going to offer Robbie a fat contract which would mean for Texas to land him they'd have to over pay even more.
Source: #Rangers remain open to trading Andrus or Profar in right deal. So, talks with #STLCards or for #Rays' Price still possible. Per Rosenthal on Twitter...
