Let's hope he's out a game or two. I'm guessing he'll certainly miss the next game; he looked like he was having trouble walking unassisted. I don't even want to think about the worst case. With Jimmy and Rose out, we have neither of our starting back court. With Jimmy out, Dunleavy got the start, and Kirk got minutes with Rose. With both out, Kirk and Dunleavy are our back court. Taj gives us a 6 man rotation. That's awful thin. We need someone to play both guar positions so Deng can get a breather and so both Kirk and Dunleavy get some rest, too. Looks like Teague. It would be nice if Snell could contribute now, too. Mike James anyone?
I was thinking about this last night, yes James will play as back up to Teague as the 3rd pg and at the SG as the 3rd SG. Also think about this, Hinrich gets hurt every year. Our starting pg will be Teague and or James. What will we do then?
OK, let's not talk about the worst case...good idea. Hinrich-Dunleavy - 24 Teague-Dunleavy - 10 Teague-Hinrich - 10 Teague-James - 4 or something like that.
I hate Dunleavy as a SG. I think he's had a fine year, but God, he simply cannot guard two guards to save his life. (As a side note.....how did he ever get the reputation as someone who could play SG? He's never been that quick and he's 6-9. He's a SF, through and through). Someone on the Realgm board made the suggestion of giving Snell the Bogans treatment, which I think is a good idea. I'm not sure to interpret Snell's lack of playing time as him being truly not ready for a minor role, or simply Thibs overvaluing a lack of mistakes. Conceivably if Snell can push guards baseline, not get burned, and sit behind the 3 point arc and hoist threes when the ball gets passed to him he should be okay......right?
I think Dunleavy came in the league as a high pick at SF. He had moderate success after being moved to SG. It makes sense. Not quick enough to guard Lu. At SG, he can at least use his height to get looks, and his height could potentially bother shorter SGs. I read some really stupid things on that site this morning. Trade Deng for a likely top 5 pick? I think the moves to make, if Rose is done... Boozer belongs at PF for Houston. They have Asik, but lots of contracts too small to be useful in making the deal happen. I don't see them giving up Lin,which would give them as big a hole at PG as they now have at PF. Boozer to Charlotte for Ben Gordon works. Reunite Kirk and BG! If BG is healthy enough, he'd be our #1 option. We'd also have Deng, so it's even more of a reunion. Keep Deng. A season of 5-18 shooting games will make it way easier to re-sign him for cheap. If we make no moves, he'd be our go to guy! How about Noah and Boozer to the Knicks for Chandler and Amare? Have to throw in Kirk to make the salaries match up. We would have well over $40M in expiring after NEXT season. Maybe they'd consider throwing in their pick, but they don't have one?
Clearly if Rose is done for the year, and maybe done in the sense of being a superstar. We need to make changes. I have been thinking about that since late last night. We have three good, (some would say very good) SF's. We need a very good SG. A trade or two needs to be done. Also Denny some of your ideas make sense, but remember the FO will want to stay below the salarie cap, even more so now. By deadline we may not recognize this team. Also...what will Thibs do? He didnt sign here to rebuild a Bulls team.
Even if Rose is out just a couple of months, remember this injury was on his good knee and leg. It could very well affect his explosiveness in the months to come. Changes will still need to be made. Anfernee Hardaway, Allan Iverson, and even Tracy McGrady come to mind of players that had their careers changed forever due to injuries. I am preparing for the worse. We could add another player to that list. Bulls are jinxed if Rose is done. That makes two PG's that were destined to be great that played for the Bulls that went down!
The way the CBA works, you have to take back about the same amount of salary as you send out. I don't see how the Bulls get under the LT would be to amnesty Boozer or Deng. Doesn't make sense with Deng because he's expiring anyway. I see these big contracts, like Boozer's, as being of huge value in making deals. Look at Houston. They have Howard, Harden, Asik, and Lin over $8M. Everyone else is under $1.5M or so. They are in no position to make a deal for Melo, or even Boozer, to fill their PF need. Asik and all the rest of their players aside from Howard, Lin, and Harden wouldn't do it.
Noah to Portland for CJ McCullom, Myers Leonard, and Thomas Robinson. That's three 1st round picks, which makes sense if we want to rebuild. CJ broke his foot, but I've seen him described as ROY contender before he got hurt. Leonard.is very young, went to Illinois, and could be an excellent big man project for Thibs. Ideally, he turns into Asik with actual basketball skills at both ends. TRob was 5th pick in the 2012 draft. He's been traded twice and we'd be his 4th team. I don't think he's a bonehead like Tyrus was, and there is a chance he can prove himself worthy of his draft selection. The deal shaves $3.1M off the payroll, plus Tax.
I see we've moved on to the worst-case scenario. So be it. Denny, you provided me with my only laugh of the day...thanks. You now want to keep Deng, but I don't. Now THAT'S funny. If Rose is done for the season, the Bulls aren't contenders. If they aren't contenders, I'm not willing to take the risk of Deng walking this offseason. Trade his ass. If you can pull off a trade of Boozer for Gordon's expiring contract, do it. Since the Bobcats are trying to win, but seem to have no use whatsoever for Gordon, this might actually be possible. If Rose is done for the season, every effort should be made to trade Deng, Boozer, Hinrich and Dunleavy by the trade deadline. For Hinrich and Dunleavy, you may want to trade them sooner rather than later...Thibodeau could break either or both due to overuse within the next couple weeks. Get what you can, but I don't want any overpriced crap if it can be avoided. Any of the other players on the team, and this would include a broken Rose, should be made available for trade if the price is right. If Rose is out for the season, it's prudent to write him off as a superstar going forward. Everything changes...everything.
Deng is an all star. I don't think he's a good 1st option at all. He probably has a lot less trade value than YOU think. He has more value to the Bulls next year after we tank. Look for who has a need for him and come up with a trade scenario you think both teams would consider. Like the Blazers deal I suggested; it seems too good a deal for both teams to pass up. Remember, anyone trading for Lu is renting him, because he will be UFA and go where he chooses. You know, the reason we didn't trade for DHoward... I do agree with you that we should consider trades for anyone on the team.
Back on topic. Bulls play the Clips tomorrow afternoon. Hinrich and Dunleavy start at guard Noah at center Deng and Boozer at forward Our bench is Taj, James, Nazr, Murphy, Snell, and Teague. Deng, Kirk, and Noah going to play all 48?
Ya i agree. Trade Deng. We have Butler. So let him go. I am willing to keep MDJ because we need a good back up SF. Since we started this thread, Rose does not have a ACL injury however, he may not be back the rest of the season anyway. And I agree with you when you said he wont be a superstar going forward. This was his good knee he injured. It will probably affect his speed somewhat going forward. Boozer is our best player, well at least the most consistent. We may amnesty him. I was against it because Rose was back. That changed. We need a sg....A good SG. Even if we blow up the team a little, we still need one. We dont have a SG, We have two pgs that play SG and have two SF's that play SG/ We trade Hinrich at deadline? Who will play Pg? Of course another way to look at this, if Hinrich gets hurt as he normally does, who will play it anyway? We are screwed. Another season lost. Even if Rose comes back by March and there is no guarantee he will, we wont go far in the playoffs. When he was in his prime, we had the best regular season winning record for two years straight. Then Rose started getting hurt, and that was it. I will of course watch the Bulls as I always have. That being said, I can't wait until deadline to see what happens.
I have been against letting Boozer walk, but we may need to do that now. Rose may be back, but he may not be until next season. I know we cannot trade for stars. I realize that. And i have been against blowing up the team until last night. Moves need to be made now. We tried, injuries hurt us.
James is going to have to play. Snell is another SF. We could play him limited minutes at SF, but Dunleavy could do that and let James play SG. That is why I have said in other threads we need a SG. A real SG or two... If kirk plays 48 minutes, he will be injured before X-mas. He is aging a little.
