So Freeland becomes our backup PF. And who starts for us at C? Lopez or Noah? I say Lopez.

"PIE is a statistic that measures overall production as a percentage of all the stats accumulated while that player is in the game. Among 210 players who have logged at least 100 minutes in the first half of games, Garnett ranks 15th with a PIE of 16.4 percent. Among 208 players who have logged at least 100 minutes in the second half, Garnett ranks dead last (0.8 percent)." Gibson is 2nd to DEAD LAST.

    Biggest PIE drop-off

    Player 1st half - 2nd half - Diff.
    Kevin Garnett 16.4% 0.8% -15.7%
    Taj Gibson 16.1% 4.6% -11.5%
    Joakim Noah 16.7% 6.8% -9.8%
    Roy Hibbert 17.4% 8.0% -9.4%
    David Lee 17.8% 9.0% -8.9%

When was the last time we had a game thread with 43 pages. I don't remember it ever happening.

Technically Noah could also play PF. That is a nice 3 man rotation. There is always a risk factor when you trade 3-1 if the one guy you are trading for gets hurt. But I would roll the dice with that.

It makes sense if the Bulls decide to rebuild without Rose. The Blazers are giving up three lottery picks, none of them help the Bulls win games. The idea would be for the Bulls to tank for a home run pick in a loaded draft.

The Blazers are winning now, and Noah will surely help.

That's the hope, but Deng, Boozer, and scrubs probably still make playoffs. So I see boozer getting traded, and yes, teams will want him.

Like, I bet the Heat would think real hard about a Noah and Boozer for Bosh and Anthony trade.

Or Charlotte would likely trade Ben Gordon for him.

I'm sure Houston would love to have Boozer, but don't have any pieces to make a deal work under the CBA. Short of including Lin with Asik.

Bulls don't have to get Wiggins, though. A top 5 pick could be excellent.

It is seeming that, from the bulls message boards I read last night, that they are wanting Jabari over Wiggins anyway.

Same here. That's alot of defense to go with a lot of shooters, no real threat of offense leaves in that trade... except for CJ's potential and Trob's occassional scoring...

So Taj suffers from being on the court with Kirk Hinrich, Nazr Muhammed, Dunleavy, and Deng. I watch that lineup and wonder why anyone but Deng even gets a play called.

Funny enough, during that time, the Bulls fans were wondering why nobody but Deng was getting a play called? lol.

Yeah, I like potential of RObinson and CJ, but that one's an easy yes for me. As for backup PF, I think you likely look at going with Batum, Wright and Victor as smaller 4s. I'm ok with that. 2 open roster spots to find someone who can get you spot minutes here and there.

My guess is that Freeland would go there, with maybe Wright getting some minutes there if we need some offensive punch at the 4.

Taj made 2 free throws shortly after entering the game at 3:20 mark in the 3rd. No other stats.

He played the entire 4th, 2-6 shooting, 3 rebounds.

I think he suffers from being Taj Gibson. ;) And I agree with you about Deng and scoring. The Bulls definitely struggle to score.

And the Bulls out scored the Blazers 24-20 in the 4th. Taj is out there for his defense and shot blocking.

It doesn't help that he's often paired with Boozer, Boozer at C.

Wes and Lopez didn't enter the 4th till 5:45. Taj had 1 defensive rebound in 15 min in the 2nd half. Taj didn't affect any of Portland's open shots. We can say he's in there for defense, but I would argue it is by default, because he certainly is NOT in there for offense. LA was double-teamed, and the Blazers were looking to bury Chi from deep, so I don't think we can credit Taj for needing help to cover 1 man. The game is on replay again in 20 min though, and we can check it out. ;) Is he a better defender than Boozer? Well, ya. But that's not saying much.

    You're entitled to your opinion.

The Bulls chose to keep him over Asik, and signed him to a contract at about the right price. That's their opinion. Their record with him on the team is best in the NBA, or close to it. What do they know?

I'm not telling you that you are wrong. I just disagree that Taj is very good, let alone worth $7.5 mil. Chicago didn't have a choice with the Toxic contract of $15 mil in the 3rd year. I believe it had everything to do with Deng, Boozer, Rose, and Noah, and their contracts, not with Gibson.

What makes you say "Their record with him on the team is best in the NBA, or close to it [because off Taj Gibson]"? THAT is a bold statement. Yikes. There were 7 Bulls that averaged more points per game last season, and 5.3 rebounds was tied for 4th on the team. As a bench player, it's fair to say a significant portion of his minutes were against bench players.

When you've got a great center in Noah, I think the redundancy at PF is more important. Portland is in the same boat with a Lopez, and Freeland/TReb. Even a team like Houston, who has the luxury of 2 legit centers, is looking for suitors for Asik, because the redundancy at center is less important than being able play small ball. There just isn't a lot of time on the court for both Howard and Asik, and 2 centers on the court just isn't a great line-up for any significant stretch on the court.
