The under card begins at 7pm ET live from Macau, China. Pacquiao (54-5-2) is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. His opponent Rios (31-1-1) suffered his first loss in his last fight, a rematch with Mike Alvarado (who has since lost to Ruslan Provodnikov).
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios Prepare to be shocked but Larry Merchant sounds a little tipsy. Colonel: We're here in China. I've been preparing all week. What have you been up to, Larry? Merchant: uh well... um... we've been... sunshine... lots of sunshine... from the uh... yellow on the glove of... Verde Colonel: ...
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios ^ I should say that not having to sit through Lampley going "bang! bang!" for Pacquiao's fight will be a treat.
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios A montage of classic fights playing to pump up the crowd. Dunno where I've seen that before...
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios Shoehorning all these Hooters girls into every frame is a little weird/creepy. They look like dolls.
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios Rios smiles at the end of round two but Pacquiao is throwing vintage flurries.
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios Pacquiao has a hand speed, foot speed, footwork, and technique advantage through three rounds. Rios is swinging hard and hitting arms, gloves, or nothing.
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios Rios is keeping his elbows tucked and his hands up over his face. When he comes out of his shell to throw a punch, Pacquiao has angled out or rushed under his arm and to the centre of the ring. Rios had a little success when they were fighting out of a clinch.
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios Pacquiao is dizzying Rios with his movement but he hasn't landed more than one or two damaging punches per round. He's dominating with technique but this fight looks like it's going to go long.
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios Pacquaio lands a straight left in the fifth and stops Rios' forward momentum. Rios chews on his mouth guard and gets back to his defensive ways. Pacquiao keeping his hands low, circling endlessly, picking at Rios. Clinical through five.
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios It will be interesting to see if Pacquiao decides to start really sitting down on his punches and try to put Rios out or if he'll be content to make Rios look like sparring fodder. Rios landed a good right hand with Pacquiao against the ropes but nothing comes of it. Moments later Pacquiao lands most of a rapid fire five or six punch combination. Rios showing some wear over his left eye with a cut starting to open up. Pacquiao continues to bully the fight, all six rounds for him so far (unofficially).
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios I can't see an argument for Rios winning any round so far. Seventh goes to Pacquiao. Rios is content just to be in the ring with him. Cuts over both of Rios' eyes and his right is swollen.
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios The 8th is perhaps the best round for Rios so far but I'd still be hard pressed to give it to him. Pacquiao has sustained virtually no damage through 2/3rds of the fight.
Re: OT: Pacquiao vs. Rios Rios was a hand-picked opponent for Pacquiao and it's looking more and more obvious why. He has nothing for him.
