Re: Dunleavy is Nellie's point forward http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/424...d_under_nellie/ <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Mike Dunleavy was named a tri-captain by Don Nelson, who plans to use him in a way that his previous two coaches didn't "Anybody who has the ball in their hands a lot needs to be a leader," Nelson said Tuesday after the first practice of training camp. "He's going to be my point forward, and I think it's important that he start to develop into that area."</div> I have never been a fan of Dunleavy, but I love the new style Nellie brings to this team. Only a select few players on this team are going to be playing their natural positions, and I am incredibly interested to see how these guys do in the new system. But on Dunleavy, I never have been a fan of him, but he still has unfulfilled potential in him, and Nellie could bring out the best in him. Playing him at multiple positions will open up his game, and it may even make him more confident knowing that his new coach trusts him as a "point forward." I have a question though, what is the starting lineup going to look like? I saw someone say Pietrus was going to start (and I think bringing Dunleavy off the bench would be nice), but I'm not so sure about that. C: Murphy PF: Diogu SF: Dunleavy SG: J-Rich PG: Baron Is that the projected starting 5 with Nellie?
Re: Dunleavy is Nellie's point forward <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>C: MurphyPF: DioguSF: DunleavySG: J-RichPG: Baron</div>No chance with that lineup. Dunleavy is a point forward and having him at SF would let SF's guard him. If you play J-Rich at SF, the SF has to guard him, and if you put Ellis or Pietrus at SG, the SG guards either one. Putting done in SF does nothing but bad for our team. Murphy is impossible to guard if he plays center and so is Dunleavy. This is our most likely lineup for opening night:C: MurphyPF: DunleavySF: J-RichSG: PietrusPG: BaronA week into the season, I think that Ellis will have taken Pietrus' spot and that Diogu and Biedrins will be going in and out of the starting five by December.
Re: Dunleavy is Nellie's point forward No, CelticBalla has it right. No way Dunleavy is able to gaurd power fowards in the league. Anyways lets just look at that first game, the Lakers. Your not going to tell me that Odom cant gaurd Dunleavy. They'll leave Dunleavy at the 3 on defense but on offense they'll just have him start the offense up and let Davis run around free. They'll go C: MurphyPF: DioguSF: DunleavySG: J-RichPG: Baron
Re: Dunleavy is Nellie's point forward Nellie said that Dunleavy is his point forward. There is no way Diogu is going to start either. sh*t, let Dunleavy guard Odom, Nellie's game is about creating mismatches, sag off on Odom, guard him on screens and drives to the rack, make him shoot the J. Pietrus is going to have to start if anyone wants to shut down Kobe, and J-Rich is better at SF.

A point foward is a player who plays foward on both sides of the court, gets gaurded by a foward and gaurds a foward, but just initiates the offense on the offensive side of the ball. Look, Lamar Odom, Antoine Walker (Was at one time), and Scottie Pippen are all examples of point fowards. At no time did they gaurd the opponents point guard(except Pippen did time to time). Walker ran the point foward while in Dallas. This is who was on the court.C-DirkF-WalkerF-HowardG-FinleyG-Nash -------------------Lakers with OdomC-KwameF-OdomF-WaltonG-KobeG-Smush------------Bulls with PippenC-LongleyF-RodmanF-PippenG-JordanG-HarperSo lets just say they do what your saying and put Dunleavy as a 4 against the LakersC-Murphy BrownF-Dunleavy OdomF-Richardson RadmonivicG-Pietrus KobeG-Davis SmushHeres who will be gaurding eachother, Murphy and Brown will guard eachother as well as Smush and Davis. BUT Rad can't gaurd Richardson so they'll move him to Pietrus and have Kobe gaurd Richardson and that leaves Odom gaurding Dunleavy. Now Pietrus will gaurd Kobe, Richardson will guard Radmonivic and have some trouble if he goes into the post, and Dunleavy is gaurding Odom and will get tore up on defense. Its that simple. Dunleavy will be playing Small foward and have an easier time guarding Radmonivic. It'll go like this. C-MurphyF-IkeF-DunleavyG-RichardsonG-DavisMurphy and Brown, Davis and Smush, Ike and Odom, Richardson and Kobe, and Dunleavy and Radmonivic. Easier for Dunleavy on the D side. Thats how it should work.
Re: Dunleavy is Nellie's point forward I know just what a point forward is, but Nellie has stated that he wants Dunleavy controlling the ball on offense when he can. He said that he wants Baron as his first or second offensive option when Dunleavy has the ball.

We'll see what happens on opening day and what lineup they are using. Hope everyone else is understanding what I'm saying.
Re: Dunleavy is Nellie's point forward It's cool man, but I doubt that small ball means Ike playing PF and Murphy playing C. That's two people that are slow on D guarding the bucket. Dunleavy and Murphy isn't much better, but it creates the mismatch.
Re: Dunleavy is Nellie's point forward Dude, Dunleavy wont be able to guard Power Forward's. Diogu is a tough defender that can bang inside and get boards. He also has a little jump shot of his. Like CB32 said, it will be:C-MurhpyPF-DioguSF-DunleavySG-JrichPG-Baron Davis
