Grunfeld most certainly has not done average, considering this was a horrible team 3 years ago, and his ability to sign free agents, and make good trades have worked out. Trading Stackhouse for Jamison, signing Gilbert Arenas, and trading away Kwame Brown while bringing in Butler, Daniles and Atkins was a great move. Especially considering he had just lost Hughes and needed to replace his production. Grunfeld did a really good job in Washington and deserved the extension he has gotten.

He's brought guys in like Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, Darius Songalia, Antonio Daniels, and DeShawn Stevenson and you say he's only done average? Look at the resume buddy. He was responsible for bringing in every Knickerbocker in the 90's except for Patrick Ewing and it brought them 2 finals appearances. When we lost Larry Hughes, Ernie Grunfeld set up to replace him with someone better, and get rid of Kwame Brown at the same time. When Gilbert was upset and threatening to opt out, Ernie brought in Darius Songalia which is gonna improve our frontcourt offense. When Jared Jeffries was signed to the Knicks, we lost a tone-setter and hustler on defense, but Ernie got DeShawn Stevenson to sign with us.Average...

Look around the league, lots of teams have made huge strides the last 4 seasons, when I look at what Grunfeld did nothing stands out with me other than the Arenas signing. He's done a run of the mill job in my opinion. This team lacks depth, any kind of an inside presense on offense or defense, lacks defense. They are going to score a lot of points but they are again a .500 team. DeShawn Stevenson was a decent signing, he played motivated last season in his contract year and was not touched by many NBA teams, who knows. Antonio Daniels? Nice backup PG/SG, nothing really special...I don't care what he did with the Knicks or the Bucks, I'm talking about his time in Washington.
