TAMPA — The Rangers are struggling so badly to score consistently that coach Alain Vigneault is entertaining the idea of playing a more conservative game.

“(Monday night’s 5-0 loss to the Lightning) was our 24th game, and in 15 of those games we’ve scored two goals or less,” Vigneault said after practice Tuesday afternoon. “That’s a pretty good chunk if you want a segment that tells you what you have. There’s a chunk there that tells us we’re not scoring a lot. Maybe we’ve got to play even tighter to the vest than we are and go into games with that mentality of (trying to win) 2-1.”

Close to the vest..well wtf have they been doing this last month? Certainly not pond hockey.

It would be nice if our useless GM would see this and do SOMETHING. Since the Gabby deal at the trade DL last season, Sather has done just about nothing. The only thing he did was re-sign McDonagh. Outside of that it was a bunch of small BS stuff like Pouliot and Moore, and a bridge deal for Stepan. It really is a crime what Sather does here. Year after year this team cannot score, and year after year nothing changes.

    1. Deal DZ for a proven solid scorer.
    2. Call up McIlrath to take DZ's spot.

Seems so simple, yet nothing gets done. Truly amazes me how useless this guy is.

And before this turns into a useless back and forth on MDZ, this is not about him. It's about trading a dman for another scorer. You want to deal Girardi instead, fine, just deal one of them for a scorer. I prefer to deal MDZ, but either way I am fine if we get a scorer back. That is my point.

It is truly amazing dis. I actually have to give it to Sather, he will NEVER EVER get fired, he does nothing, gets paid and treated like a king, results simply do not matter, and he keeps his job. It is truly amazing how he does it. I tip my cap to him. This guy has done ONE thing since the trade DL last season, re-sign McDonagh long term. And that is on the heels of doing NOTHING at the trade DL the prior season, which was a flat out disgrace as I said at the time.

Simply comical. Happy Thanksgiving Glen...I tip my cap to you for being able to pull this off.

The Rangers alone made $27M for Dolan last year, that's pretty much all Dolan cares about, so Sather is safe as long as the dough keeps rolling in, which it will, no matter the quality of the team...

I'm with you guys, but we are likely going to see Sather for quite awhile longer IMO...

We all know Sather will never EVER get fired, so we all don't need to even discuss that. He is going nowhere...is what it is. We all know it. We move on.

As for the money the Rangers made, that is what it is as well. I could be the GM and they'd make money. MSG, NYC, their own cable network, yeah the Rangers will make money no matter who is in charge of the hockey operations. The question is can we win also, and the answer for Sather is a HUGE NO. Unless 1 ECF run even in 15 years is considered winning...:).

Gorton should be scouring trade possibilities and waking Sather from his naps to go after them.

I don't know what AV expects when he continually starts duds like D. Moore, Dorsett, Boyle and Pouliot, I don't mind Boyle for his PK abilities but the other 3 are useless, Miller should be rotated into this batch to motivate them. I agree with bringing up McIlrath and thought he along with Kreider should be up from the start. I would put the big man in Stralman's spot, amazing how his goal-less ass continually avoids any criticism, Stralman must be the Swedish word for Teflon.

to get on anton stroleman is absurd. this guy has been as steady as any d-man except McD for the rangers. He's the least of the Rangers problem. What the Rangers lack is a true sniper, but so do many other teams. And the teams that do have them drafted in the 1-5 slots. We have actually drafted pretty good considering our lack of a top 5 pick for many a year

Sorry Mr Stralman/puck but your son/uncle blows, only a relative of the guy would make such an absurd post. He is on this team for his supposed offensive prowess and has delivered none (0 G, 2A in 24 games), his undersized body isn't expected to do anything physically. The only positive is he's a +1 so he does apparently have a knack for being on the ice when a goal is scored.
