Who do yall think will be known as the better player when it is all set and done. You have to remember, Pau Gasols career has been more succesful than Dirks when Dirk was 26. Personaly, I think Pau Gasol will go down as the better player if not best player from Europe. Its hard to say this right after the Finals Dirk had, but they have a different age. Dirk is in prime and Pau hasnt hit his yet. Sure Dirk can hit threes, but other than that Pau is better than Dirk. Better passer, rebounder, defender and at his age, makes better decisions than Dirk made at 26. I have read articles that people even say Pau is the european KG. Which if you look at each players game, they play extremely similar, just Pau has a bit european twist to him(meaning he isnt better or more athletic...but hes close, european). When all set and done, who will be known as the better player. Remember, if you bring up the "never won a playoff game" you have t bring up the bad season the Mavs had b4 a couple years ago.

Dirk is more clutch than Gasol, has far better range, and there isn't much difference with the defense and rebounding. Dirk and Gasol are about the same in rebounding and neither are lock down defenders. Dirk at 26 is about equal to Gasol now. Gasol and Dirk are about the same in passing as well. Imo you are overrating Gasol. He is not a superstar and probably won't become one until he develops a better jumpshot which I don't see happening which that ugly form he has.
Pau averaged 5apg, everybody knows Gasol is better defender, Gasol has extremely good range and just cause his shot looks weird doesn't mean anything. What makes you htink Gasol isnt clutch, you probably only watched 4 game of him, to bad I watched almost 82 games of him and Dirk. Im not overrating Pau, pau does alot more stuff for Memphis than Dirk does for Dallas. Pau carries Memphis who doesn't have any other stars, our second leading scorer comes off the bench and averaged only 13ppg. Dirk has a way better supporting cast, Pau is clearly going to be better.
Pau when given forever to shoot it is a decent shooter but if he is rushed it can get ugly. He relies too much on his speed and slashing ability and I feel that will wear him down unlike Dirk who has great shooting ability. Pau might be 26 but slashers tend to wear down quicker compared to shooters. The main thing is Dirk is the main guy on the second best team in the league and Pau is the main guy on a mediocre Grizzlies team. The stats don't mean as much since they aren't leading to wins. Eddie Jones, Mike Miller, and Shane Battier should be enough to be a dangerous team if Pau plays the right way. I don't remember the last time Pau hit a clutch shot. I've seen the Grizzlies choke a lot of close games after having big leads in the first half. Dirk hitting a 3 to tie the game against your Grizzlies and getting an and 1 against the spurs to tie the score in game 7 shows how clutch Dirk can be. Pau is a solid player but I'm not putting him in the superstar level yet if ever.
Pau Gasols game is like a true power forwards game, not really a slashers, and we all know most TRUE big men last longer. Pau Gasol is very very clutch, the only teams that have beaten late in the game was Boston and Ricky Davis last shot(which was Shane fought) and the Detroit Pistons game(double overtime, Eddie Jones got fouled out and Damon Stoudamire had to guard Billups, in which Billups his game winning shot.) Pau Gasol is way more clutch than you htink. If Memphis traded its supporting cast for Dallas supporting cast, Memphis would probably be better cause Dirk may do alotve good stuff for Dallas, but defensively he sets many problems for Dallas. Even Manu Ginobli said he would rather have Pau Gasol instead of Dirk, cause Pau will eventually be the better player.
I believe Ginobili said that he would rather Gasol because he likes him more. Gasol is not strong enough to be a true big man. He plays by attacking the basket similar to Kenyon Martin. Those aren't true big men. Duncan is a true big man and Dallas had alot more problems with Duncan compared to Gasol.
Manu pick Pau cause Pau IS true big man and easier to build a team around, thats the last thing im going to say...anybody elses opinions?
Let's see them when they play heads up against each otherThis years playoffsPau Gasol20.3 ppg6.8 rpg3 apg1.25 bpgDirk Nowitzki31.3 ppg7.8 rpg3 apg.5 bpgDirk wins, all Pau did was get more bpg, and when Dirk was 26 he was winning playoff series. Is Pau?<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (austingriz76 @ Oct 6 2006, 02:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Manu pick Pau cause Pau IS true big man and easier to build a team around, thats the last thing im going to say...anybody elses opinions?</div>Manu picked Pau because Manu doesn't like Dirk. Everyone knows that. I mean, wouldn't you not like Dirk if you were the one who gave them pretty much the game by fouling him?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (CB4AllStar @ Oct 7 2006, 05:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Can you explain why?</div>Just the way plays... IMO Dirk is more way dominant that Gasol. Dont get me wrong Gasol is a nice PF but Dirk and pretty much do it all.

You can't say that Gasol will have the best career, because all the evidence points to Dirk at the beter player. Dirk has been an MVP candidate for the past 2 years and an all NBA first teamer for the same time period. Gasol hasnt cracked the MVP consideration, and only had his 1st All-star appearance this season. Dirk on the other hand made his 6th(?) appearance in a row and has settled himself as a superstar.Gasol for Best European Player ever? Give me a break. Dirk had that sewed up 2 years ago.
When Pau Gasol becomes an MVP candidate is when you can start comparing him to Dirk. Right now Dirk is clearly better.

<span style="font-family:Book Antiqua">Good comparison, but not worth debating over. I pick Dirk simply because he's a top 3 PF in the league right now behind Kevin Garnett and maybe ahead of Tim Duncan.</span>
