Good move though I'm sure it hurts paying luxury tax for a D-leaguer. I can't ever recall hearing Thibodeau praise Teague. In a mild surprise, the Bulls early in the day assigned second-year point guard Marquis Teague to the Iowa Energy, their Development League affiliate. But sources said Teague got recalled before landing because an MRI revealed veteran point guard Mike James suffered a sprained MCL before Monday's triple overtime loss to the Pelicans. James still gritted out 10 minutes. James is expected to miss one to two weeks, gift-wrapping another opportunity for Teague. Will he be called up when Kirk gets hurt? Or do they scour the trash heap for a different D leaguer to be our starter?
I'm not sure if I should feel happy for Marquis or sorry for him. In all honesty, time in the D League probably would've been good for him. I'd guess that Teague is less than the sum of his parts right now, so some time to get in a rhythm would probably do him some good....although I'm not sure how much good we're talking about.
Don't you get the feeling that James is a testament to the power of PEDs? At some point, no amount of authorized or unauthorized medicine is going to beat back father time. I feel sorry for Teague. He reminds of some of those talented phenoms that you used to see all the time when the NBA allowed high schoolers to apply for the draft. Some time in the D-League might have served him well. I hope Teague will be able to adjust to the pro game before he loses his opportunity. I still think he has a great skill profile - he could be a star. He's just so far away from that at this point in time.
I think Teague would benefit from playing in Europe after his three year stint with the Bulls. Three years or so to master the finer details of running the PG situation would allow him to re-enter the NBA at the age of 25, this time with the experience he should have gotten in college. Teams already have him scouted so they know what he's capable of, you just need to know he can run a damn team. And right now he can't to save his life.
Ironically, Teague might benefit most by a Hinrich injury. The irony being it was a Hinrich injury that forced Atlanta to play Marquis' brother, Jeff.
