I would agree Gasol is a better fit. And I haven't looked at the numbers, but the Lakers could probably offer more than we're willing to, you're right about that. In this thread I wasn't necessarily assuming we had the best Asik package on the market. I was wondering if it's a deal we should make if we could.
Re-read the OP. I wasn't advocating the trade; in fact I said I had mixed feelings about it. Moreover, the purpose of the thread was to compare Lopez's and Asik's defensive abilities.
Verdict: Guilty of a horrible idea. Sentencing will begin within the month. And may God have mercy on your soul.
A fair three-way deal. Trade ID #6369367 Houston trades: Omer Asik Houston gets: Spencer Hawes, Lavoy Allen, Allen Crabbe Philadelphia trades: Spencer Hawes, Lavoy Allen Philadelphia gets: Meyers Leonard, Joel Freeland Portland trades: Meyers Leonard, Joel Freeland, Allen Crabbe Portland gets: Omer Asik Philly should get an extra 2nd rounder or two to complete this deal but since they got a new GM, nobody on that team feels safe except for MWC.
BTW--the idea of LA trading Gasol for Lin/Asik is silly. Howard already spent a year playing alongside Gasol, and didn't like it. I seriously doubt that Morey would irritate his prized signing by reprising that combo.
I agree, as I have thought on it Hawes is actually a better fit WITH Lopez and should be cheaper to acquire
I wish Dallas would tank so we could pick up Dalembert off their rotting carcass. He's averaging 7.6 points, 6.9 boards, and 1.5 blocks in 26 minutes per game for a 17.24 PER
I haven't read this thread, but I'll just say I don't believe a swap of Lopez for Asik would improve the Blazers AS A TEAM. Lopez is the perfect fit for us and plenty good enough with our roster. Since Houston isn't going to give us Asik for our scrubs or without getting back a key piece of our team, I say forget Asik and move on with the season. It will be funny when Houston can't get even close to what they want for him. I can't believe how Morey and the national media overvalue that guy.
This thread is so funny. I guess if we were sucking right now it would make more sense. Lopez and Freeland are perfect for this team right now. I can't imagine an upgrade that wouldn't throw off our chemistry and/or gut our team. Also if we somehow got Asik without loosing Lopez or any other major piece then Asik would be just as unhappy here because he would be sharing minutes with Lopez and probably wouldn't even start over him.
I trust Neil Olshey to make the right move here. If he really likes Asik and views him as a significant upgrade who won't be any sort of issue from a chemistry standpoint, AND Houston has to give him up for significantly less than he's worth–he'll do it. I think the trade Olshey should be looking at is moving guys like Meyers Leonard and Will Barton for other young, undervalued assets (Thomas Robinson types) who haven't cracked the rotation that Olshey values more than them. The Derrick Williams trade is a good example of this. Sometimes these guys just need a change of scenery with a different set of coaches who might have a more suitable philosophy/technique. I would be shocked if Olshey stood pat at the trade deadline if they continue playing at this level, though. Guessing we'll see a minor trade to set the team up better for the playoffs... probably Claver or one of those guys for a backup big to put next to Freeland. Maybe another wing.
I disagree. I don't think he makes a trade if we're still in the top three by the trade deadline. More than one player has talked about the chemistry on the team, and I don't think Neil would mess with that. Despite the fact that I think this team still has a few weak spots, we can't really do anything about it because the team is playing so well. They've developed chemistry, and any trade at this point could seriously jeopardize what this team has built.
