OK, so in addition to "that's not what I meant", "I was misquoted", I'll add "I made a reading blunder" to the list of auto replies for you to use to weasel out of standing by your comments. Check.
...you can do as you wish, chevette. How is actually admitting mistakes "weaseling out"?...again, you're delirious. ...now please, point to what I "denied" or in BBB's words "STFU".
...lmao...the world according to chevette. ...no, actually, it confirms that it WAS an honest error...and that you're now relegated to semantics.
Semantics? An honest error? You advocated for McCann before you changed to Salty, and went back to McCann AFTER the Yankees signed him. And you introduced a new excuse - "reading blunder" in the process. Like I said - no one would care if you changed your mind and went back and forth - just about everyone does it. But the difference is, you trash anyone who takes an opinion contrary to your "current opinion", and refuse to admit that you at some point claimed the same. Kinda makes you look like a douchebag, doesn't it?
...lmao @ of all people, you trying to call me a "douche". ...are you really this dense? ...I've long lobbied for McCann and unlike you, I actually backed it up with proof...but in your alternate universe, because I mistakenly misread ONE point in a post by another person who made SEVERAL points in that same post it means that I "changed to Salty"?...check. ...for the umpteenth time, I have already admitted I obviously didn't read MB's as clearly as I should have, but for your own misguided reasons, you seem to be stuck on that singular thing, not that I'm surprised...you're really reaching here.
Vette, regarding the Ellsbury signing.. How much is one of the very best - if not THE best (30 yrs old) all around CFers in MLB worth? Wait...hold on...there's more-- .298 career hitter, that's a couple/few hits away from being a .300 career hitter. Okay, lets move on.... He has already lead the league in SB 3 times including last year and averages 55 sb. 162 game average 289 Total bases per season. (Cano 317 total bases hitting at Yankee Stadium) <--- not to belittle Cano, I think he's absolutely one of the very best hitters in MLB but it stands to reason that Ellsbury's TOTAL BASE and SLG% numbers should improve playing 81 games per yr at Yankee Stadium Ellsbury -career .313 BA w/risp, .314 w/ runners on base. .301 BA in NINE post season series. Has played his home games in one of the more unfriendly ballparks for left handed batters. Ellsbury Will now play all of his home games at LHB friendly Yankee Stadium. Comments welcome....Vette?
LOL - comments? $153M for 7yrs. Earth to blg, what's the frequency? Are you cherry-picking stats to make Ellsbury look like a better player than Cano, despite your "not to belittle Cano" BS. The Red Sox didn't go higher than 5yrs/$80M on a player they brought up from a minor league, but you think the Yankees going 2 more years and almost TWICE the $$$ makes sense? Wow!
"The Red Sox offered Ellsbury two separate contracts to choose from: one for six years at less than $120 million, and one for five years and $100 million." http://www.overthemonster.com/2013/12/4/5174452/jacoby-ellsbury-free-agency-red-sox-yankees https://twitter.com/GordonEdes/status/408112440501469184
...and here others say it didn't go beyond 5yrs/$80M, so who knows. But I would think the Red Sox might have gone closer to the 6yr/$120M vs. 5yr/$80M. Thought the 5yr/$80M seemed low. http://nypost.com/2013/12/04/how-jacoby-ellsbury-became-a-yankee/ http://www.sportsoverdose.com/mlb/boston-red-sox-breaking-news-transactions https://twitter.com/KenDavidoff
Ellsbury salary last year was 9,000,000. from the Red Soxs. I don't know if there were performance bonuses attached.
Has this thought been mentioned. If Cano's camp might of voiced a concern on the state of the Yankee Roster going into free agency period, the Yankees may have been aggressive and acting swiftly to prove to Cano and any other potential target that the Yankees were not going backwards and that they were committed to fielding a winner in 2014.
^^^I'm sure it would be in the decision making process for any possible pending acquisitions to come.
Even in a weakened, hole-infested state - can't see how Cano could view the Mariners and their roster as a better option. I think we would all like to think the Yankees would go to $200M (if they think Ellsbury may be worth $150M+, not sure why they wouldn't go there), but anything beyond that (btw - NY Post says Mariners are now at 9yrs/$225M) is too much.
...Mariners were also reported to be willing to go 8 years on Elsbury and possibly a 9th...and Elsbury is from that area and still would not take the deal.
The Mariners have not done a very good job distancing themselves from the perception that they are a dysfunctional outpost. For a guy like Felix - it's all he knows. For guys like Ellsbury (and maybe Cano), they may not even want to give it a try.
Most guys out there are hacks, but Rosenthal is one that I have always enjoyed reading. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/rosenthal-dumb-dumber-or-dumbest-m-s-cano-or-yankees-120513
I personally see the Mariners as only a pawn to raise the Yankee offer. I can't believe he would want to go there for 25 million more and 2 years less that he may still be able to bank on at 40 and 41 years old.
...I still think he eventually resigns and retires as a Yankee, but as far as other possible suitors, I'm actually more concerned with Texas swooping in.
The Phillies weren't even mentioned until I woke up the next morning and found Cliff Lee had gone back there in 2010. Texas is a possibility, and the Dodgers are always a threat, no matter what they say. Dark horse - the Cubs.
I can see it now, he sign for 9 years and 210 with Yankees and everyone will be screaming OMG, and if we lose him, everybody will be screaming OMG. In reality, that's what happens when you let your cornerstone for the post Core 4 era become a free agent. I wonder in Angel Land they are saying, Mr Trout, please pick up the red courtesy phone. I think he played last year for 500,000. Or what Arod makes in 2.8 games...
