I'm all for analytics, predictions, news articles, and what have you. At the end of the day i'm a fan, I enjoy watching the Portland Trailblazers, period. It's not often you get to watch a team have the start that we've had so i'm enjoying it. The excitement i've felt watching the past month of basketball couldn't be tarnished even if we didn't win another game all year. I'm not speaking TO anyone in particular, but I feel like so many people get wrapped up in being right or a forum warrior that they don't just sit back and enjoy watching basketball, which is why we're all here in the first place. The internet, advanced statistics, fantasy basketball/football are all a blessing and a curse.

Actually, we technically can't go .500 the rest of the way. The best we can do is 31-32 or 32-31, which results in a total of 47-48 wins. Not 46. I know it's arguing over minor details, but the difference between 46 wins and 48 wins could be a seed or two (or not making the playoffs).

Plus, where would this forum be without arguing over minor details?

Sorry, I somehow missed it. When, exactly did you attempt to talk basketball in this thread? You stated your opinion (the team that is currently 16-3 is average and will finish the season as an average team), but provided no data to support that claim - nothing about strength of schedule, margin of victory, nothing about how or why we will end up with an average record. You realize to end up average, the team that is currently 16-3 and has won over 84% of their games to date would need to go 25-38 (.397) over the remaining 63 games to finish at .500 (average). You also realize that that is a worse winning percentage that last year's 33-win team (.402), right?

Do you actually find such a viewpoint to be reasonable and realistic? That this team, that has won 16 of their first 19 games, will suddenly and consistently, over the remainder of the regular season, win games at a lower percentage than last year's 33-win team. Do you honestly believe the team is worse this year than last and has just been winning with smoke and mirrors and will suddenly regress to winning less than 40% of their games for the rest of the season? Do you really believe that, or are you just doggedly sticking to your guns in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary? When will you finally anoint them as above average, when they win their 42nd game? Their 50th? Would that be enough for you to admit you're wrong?

Personally, I find such an opinion absurd and completely unsupportable. So, you want to talk basketball? Great! Give us your basketball reasons why this team will slump to .397 over the remainder of the season and finish the season as an average team.

    Dumb post.

Wasn't it just a few years ago that a 46-48 win team missed the playoffs by one game? So, yeah 2 games makes a huge difference, especially if you believe the team is average and is likely to regress closer to the mean (as you do). If you hadn't noticed, the West is pretty damn deep (you may not have noticed, since you haven't noticed the Blazers' performance thus far).

But Lopez might get injured after the All State break! That was your only argument. And a weak one at that.

I would say what Paul Allen thought had more to do with rebuilding than devotion by fans. Fan support may have played a part though.

I don't think even Neil expected us to be 16-3 in his wildest of dreams

I could be wrong but I think a large part of it is due to Paul's health and that's why for a while he was going to GM after GM. That what Paul might have meant by "Golden Gut?"

Lopez played all 82 games last season. When writers hold out from committing on why the Blazers are successful and acknowledging that the Blazers are beating the best teams in the NBA, and instead dwell on the Blazers being an injury away from not being the best in the NBA, you know they have nothing to say and were emphatically wrong about their assessment. They have zero credibility as a sports writer.

Rose is injured - they're struggling
Dwade is injured - they're stuggling
Iggy is injured - they're struggling
Gasol is injured - they're struggling

There is nothing insightful about making a statement about hypothetical injuries. Any jack ass can make that statement without being patently wrong. It's the last line of defense for a no-talent hack writer trying to save face.

Well said. Repped. Have been enjoying the season so much. I have seen many worry about "the other shoe dropping" so to speak. To each their own I suppose. There doesn't have to be a legit or for real. But there is a 16-3 start we should all be enjoying for what it is. A 16-3 start, which is awesome. Worrying about a 3-16 stretch coming means you're miserable then AND you didn't enjoy the start. Ride with it and have fun. Let the chips fall where they may.
