I think Hawes is the best choice and probably most realistic, problem is he's been playing so well he might cost more (CJ) than we want to give. If he could be had for Leonard and one or two of Freeland/Crabbe/Barton/Claver I'd do it in a heartbeat
Freeland, CJ and Claver for Varejao works from a cap standpoint. So does Freeland and CJ for Hawes. Realistic? How the heck would I know? If you had told me going in that Olshey could have gotten Robinson and Lopez for what he did, I'd have said you were crazy. Teams looking to tank may do all kinds of things this year that we wouldn't ordinarily expect.
Hey I get it if you actually understand my post, I said it would likely "cost more (CJ and filler) then we want to give." Many if not most Sixer fans want to tank and Hawes is not helping the cause as an expiring contract who will be a UFA next summer. As always the key Q is each sides perception of what "value" is appropriate.
IMO CJ and filler will get you Hawes, they are looking for young assets or picks and to tank this yr, do we want to give up CJ for an expiring UFA is the key Q?
CJ is coming of a (re)broken foot. No other GM is going to touch him until he can get on the court and remain injury free for awhile. Even then I don't see how another team doesn't trump that offer.
So, this is the usual game around here where people throw out trade ideas and other people say that they would never happen? The NBA is a weird place where trades that would never happen end up happening quite frequently.
like who and what will they offer? CJ was a highly regarded pick. Give him a month to play a bit and be healthy and any worries will go away quickly, that's my view FWIW

Sure trades happen and sometimes they surprise you, but this is not a trade that looks reasonable on paper. But fuck it, I probably should have said it looks awesome and I can't wait to see it happen. Everybody would be a lot happier I'm sure.
It just depends on the team and what their motivation is. We got Lopez because New Orleans was trying to clear cap space for Tyreke Evans. Philly might be willing to move Hawes to tank, but how much do you want to give up for Hawes? I'm very hesitant to deal CJ for someone like Hawes. I think it's important to keep some of our young talent, while still having vets and competing. Otherwise you look like the Nets, who blew up their future for the now, and yet they're one of the worst teams in the league.
The tenth player picked in what many are considering one of the worst drafts of all time. He might end up great, but right now he's nothing but a string of question marks around the league.
