Now trade for phillips or go get infante and then its the pitching sides turn. How you like this lineup now

Rather trade Gardner for starting pitching not for Phillips

There's legit power back in this lineup now with Mccann, Soriano, Tex and Beltran. Pitching wise the key is going to of course be CC. If he doesn't bounce back the Yankees are doomed regardless of pitching moves this club makes. If he can bounce back I like a top three of CC, Nova and Kuroda. They need another strong arm for sure so stay tuned.

Yanks' current projected 2014 outfield/DH combined salaries.

    Ellsbury (outfield) 22 mil
    Beltran (outfield/DH) 15
    Ichiro (outfield) 6.5
    Soriano (outfield/DH) 5
    Gardner (outfield) 4 approx
    _________________________________

total - 52.5 mil..... A very fair cost for a very good/well balanced outfield/DH combo

Yanks are doing very well and seem to be right on "target" to reduce their overall payroll while still putting a good team out there. Well done !

...same here, Tote...would have liked a shorter term but evidently, 2 years was not gonna get it done.

The Yankees have nearly successfully rebuilt their lineup minus the addition of a quality 3B. This team will score runs, but the success of the 2014 campaign will be on what pitching they can add from this point forward. I see that Gardner and either Romine or Murphy, Nunez are expendable now. If you were to add Sanchez with Gardner, I feel that you could get a decent starting pitcher, or a Headley from Seattle. This team in the field is so much better than last year, they will score runs, they may need to. Adding Beltran was an automatic after the Cano signing. Robbie will be missed, but in the end, he did us a favor I feel. The money slotted for him will being other pieces. Beltran for one. I would just love it, if because of necessity, Johnson has a Scott Brosous type of year and out homers Cano. Now the question becomes, Infante or Headley? either one would be great.

...if I had to choose between the two, all things considered, I think I'd rather have Infante because he probably would be cheaper. is more versatile, and is a better contact hitter (doesn't strike out nearly as often)

I wonder who lit the fire under Cashmans a@@ to add quality to this team 180 degrees out from the dumpster pulling a year ago. Girardi was grinning from ear to ear when I saw the clips of McCann being introduced. Wonder how much input he had towards this years acquisitions. Team looks much improved but I'd still like to see Infante come aboard and Reynolds be retained.

I would like that also 5545. I am very optimistic because I feel if we add Infante, this becomes one of the most flexible position players we have had in a long time.

...yeah, I would have preferred no more than 2 years, but if his bat holds up he could at least DH his final year.

Now and then... Tex, McCann will be transitioning to that, Beltran, and Ellsbury depending on his health...

...Elsbury and McCann and Tex?...McCann will be only 32 in 3 years and Elsbury will only be 33, and Tex, well, he's a 1Bman and no reason to think he won't still be playing 1B.

...and I already brought up that Beltran might be DHing more during his final year.

Tex will definitely be transitioning to that roll, McCann, as we have already been told will transition to DH or 1B as the contract gets later on..., Ellsbury has always been a health risk, so depending on the injury of the year, he may be spending time DHing...

...wait a minute, we were talking about THREE years from now, not 5 or 6, right?...that's how this convo began.

...I'd like to know why you believe Tex will be transitioning to a DH role 3 years from now?...I'd also like to hear why Elsbury is a "health risk" any more than any other player?...two of his longest DL stints were the result of very violent collisions with other players because he was busting his ass to get to make a play and the other was from a ball fouled off his foot. (broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and a compression fracture of the foot)
...it's not like the guy is pulling hammies or hurting himself by normal playing of the game.
