If you think our FO is messed up, read this. WOW! I love it, way to go JayZ, nice job of taking care of your client. http://seattletimes.com/html/mariners/2022420240_mariners08xml.html
In the end, do you think an agent like Boras as compared to JayZ would have protected his client or at the least make that part of the decision making process. This article may also lend insight to the failed attempt to acquire Lee, Jack Z doesn't seem to trust worthy, remember how they kept going back and forth.
When Wedge got up and boogied off the job most fans were probably aware that there were problems up there. Even MLB Seattle Homer Harold Reynolds shows many frows when that franchise is discussed. Ah well, what's done is done and I like the Yankees countermoves thus far. Very good read though.
Maybe that is another reason MLB players have stayed away from Seattle. They are a tight knit fraternity.
They were discussing that situation on "Hot Stove" this am. Wedge rained rather than dropped dimes. Gammons, Reynolds, and Vasgergian pretty much agreed that his remaining baseball career will be in the booth.
Wish I could've seen that. I like Wedge, and figured he'd always take the "too classy to say anything bad about former employers" side. With that said, I know he's got stories and feels screwed, so it's interesting to see some of this start trickling out. As a long-time M's fan (and even a beer vendor for part of the 2001 season), the issues with Lincoln, Armstrong and Nintendo are well-known and documented. The only new stuff from Baker's article (and he's pretty legit, btw) is the magnitude of Jack Z's idiocy and bluster. It was assumed by most (including Baker) that Jack Z. was a good talent scout, but poor manager of "talent developers" in the minors or coaches in the majors (see: hire of Wakamatsu). That went away partially when Wedge was hired. It came back when he went with the "power or bust" offseason of Morse/Morales/Ibanez?/Bay(??!!!?). Maybe he lucked into Cano, maybe he overpaid by half, maybe he was shrewd, whatever. Cano's our best hitter by far, and will be far into the future, presumably. But for Jack Z to be shown as a guy who doesn't even understand analytics and bases decisions on BA/HR/RBI/ERA/W's? You don't need to be Keith Law to be a GM, but you'd think you'd have a guy or two in the office you listen to. In short, just...wow.
...lol..."just wow"...yup, that pretty much sums it up. I think nearly everybody was shocked by that deal.
