Former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) is hoping to fight himself into a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr. next September if the 26-year-old Ortiz can beat his next scheduled opponent Luis Collazo (34-5, 17 KO’s) on January 30th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Ortiz would then need to fight Danny Garcia, and the winner of that fight is a possible opponent for Mayweather next September. That’s a tough task for an inconsistent fighter like Ortiz to beat both Collazo and Garcia without melting down mentally and tripping himself up in some manner or another like he’s done in the past.

Ortiz was supposed to beat Marcos Maidana and Josesito Lopez, and he lost both those fights. Ortiz was supposed to beat Lamont Peterson, and instead he was held to a draw.

He's an underachiever. He's not enough of a draw to justify another fight with Money (not that there are a lot of options at the moment). Erislandy Lara is probably closer.
