You don't have to agree with what she says but that was a quality post. Well thought out, well written.

It's pretty much the exact opposite of the crap you post.

She seems like a very nice, yet overly verbose poster with a penchant for tl;dr posts arguing a take that is reasoned, researched and likely unpopular--and then defending said post/take against all comers.

I hate people like that. ;)

Pelton made the comparison to Nate Silver. I merely pointed out that Nate Silver correctly used statistics to accurately predict the outcome. I didn't buy Nate Silver's "insider", but I wouldn't disregard sound analysis that led to 98% accuracy. Contrast that with Pelton who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his projection and I don't have the first idea what you're talking about. News flash, Nate Silver also projected the election before any votes were cast, which is the same as projecting season-ending wins before the games are played. Not a very good analogy on your part. :(

I can't take anyone serious that ignores chemistry in a team sport. See: Fakers last season. So, again, I don't understand your point. :(

Talking about me instead of my opinion means you've got nothing to offer. :( A moment of silence please while we mourn the loss of thought.

No, you don't. LMMFAO I'm not trying to change your opinion, I'm just stating mine. If your argument is compelling though, I might change my opinion. Keep up the good work!

It did not occur to me that insider was for all their sports. Noted.

Tl;dr happens a lot but I love her contribution to this forum. She's a quality writer for when I actually do read them.

I think one of her problems is when someone does disagree or debate her, it turns on a switch to seek you out and make it known how wrong you are; regardless if you have a good point or not.

I like her and I don't hate posters like that. I hate posters like SlyPokerDog because he is a douche.

I don't have to acknowledge the trolls to get under their skin. It's a gift. I credit my mom's side of the Fam. Good sarcasm genes there.

Re: Silver (who started in the baseball progostication business with PECOTA, his version of SCHOENE, and about as accurate in team predictions), his projections on Tuesday morning of the election were wildly different than his weekly updates starting in June. In June he had (iirc) a 61% probability that Obama would win, vs. 90% in November. He predicted 291 electoral votes in July, v. the 332 that the President actually ended up with. His methods (assumingly close to the same system?) got crushed in the 2010 midterms.

Well done to him for tweaking variables better than competitors in 2012 and predicting better than anyone on Monday night what the next 24 hours would hold. But if you took the "preseason" (June) predictions of Silver and applied your same analysis, it would be seemingly hypocritical to not be as scathing to Silver as you are to Pelton and the like.

On a side note: You don't seem to take seriously anyone who disagrees with your gut feelings and non-quantifiable positions, and it seems as if the "I can't take seriously anyone who..." is your default when argument arises.

I really should post in green font until rookies learn the posters here better.

EDIT: Just read Mags' post. Amended to read "I really should post in green font until rookies learn the posters here better and mags pulls his head out". ;)

So you hate people like me or you don't? lol

And, I stand by my statement about Nate not being analogous. No one gives a crap about what Pelton has to say when 70+ games have been played. It's clear fans can tell how teams will finish for themselves.

I don't take anyone seriously who makes a living as an "expert", speaks in the 3rd person to deflect fault, and has a higher chance of being wrong than someone throwing darts at a wall of predictions written on fortune cookie papers.

I am the person I described.

My only point with the Pelton v. Silver analogy (and I agree with you on projections in general) is that the analogy for Pelton's 41-win preseason guess is analogous to Silver's 291 in June, not the 332 (and calling each state) in November. I'm relatively sure that if you let Pelton do whatever black magic he does to his projections through the course of the 82 games, he'll correctly predict the 16 playoff teams and probably tell you which series will be close. That doesn't mean I think he's a genius (or not), or that his projections should be taken as gospel until that point.

Mags, you should hook up with Kevin Pelton, he's got loads of excuses if you are short and in need of some. ;)
