Nash is no different than any player on a bad team. Last year Nash was amazing. Especially in 3rd periods. This year the entire team blows. Every player is dragged down. Nash isn't the problem. The problem is this team has 2 top defenseman done forever with injuries. No 3rd and 4th line role players worth crap.
I wonder what is the breaking point to become sellers...I personally am not at that point....but yes in the back of one's head it doesn't help barely making the playoffs year after year...the death of Alex Chernapov is really showing now
If there is anything still biting this team today is that miss in the '03 draft. Brown Parise Getzlaf Kesler Perry M. Richards B. Burns these were all drafted AFTER Jessiman. and all are top-6 forwards except for Burns who is a good offensive Dman.
hitting and missing on a pick is one thing..you can always go back and say we should have drafted x over y...but this was a special kid who died...there is no debating on whether it was a good pick or not
I'm not saying Nash is the problem. He's a very good offensive player. My point is that they completely changed the essence of the team by getting him, and he is not that type of player. I liken him to Marian Hossa. He's a really good player, but not one the team is built around. Chi is built around Toews and Kane, and he is a top supporting player and all star. I have little doubt if Nash was substituted for Hossa, Chi still wins. After waiting for countless years for NYR to build a team, they finally did. They still had room to get better basically tore it down, went in another direction, and we are left with a disgusting mess. Didn't need the Nash or Gabby trades. Some tweaks to personnel and style while keeping the core together is what I preferred. I saw this disaster coming, and I am so fed up. Not trying to be argumentative or a know it all, just needing to vent.
The constant is the most overrated GM in Rangers history slats Sather who was smart enough to draft Wayne Gretzky, brilliant. The guy who should have been given the GM job interviewed with Sam Rosen during the 2nd period intermission, Sam's old broadcast partner JD. JD goes to punching bag St. Louis and turns them into a challenger now he's working his magic in Columbus while Sather is still drafting small minimally talented forwards. I disagree about Nash, the guy has averaged a little under a point per game in the regular season as a Ranger and while he only had 5 points in last year's playoffs he constantly drew double teams from Washington and Boston. Gaborik was a great Ranger but he is also injury prone as evidenced by his absence last night, I just don't think he is built to take the physical pounding of the playoffs. Last night Nash was double teamed all night by the BJs and the Rangers couldn't capitalize. How many pucks sat in front of an open goal as Ranger players cruised behind the net? The killer this year has been Hank, he's 28th in GAA while Talbot is #3 and Hank's 27th in save % while Cam is 4th. Hank seems mentally lost despite having just received the huge contract he wanted, I agree that Cam should get more starts especially when Hank has a stinker like last night. Every team makes mistakes and needs to be bailed out by their goalie once in a while. I don't think the season is over yet but if Hank can't clear his head the Rangers are in trouble. Sather should still be looking to make moves with the free agency situation but he's selling low on virtually every player.
Agree panze I'd love to see JD in control of things for the rangers also. Come on Dolan UD make it happen
