Ariel Helwani @arielhelwani 3m Talked to a source very much in the know and they said the call with Dana/GSP went "well." Still no word what exactly will be announced.
Re: UFC & GSP to host 'special media conference call' tomorrow at 2.30pm et Its going to be: -Will fight soon -Will vacate title and take a leave of absence -Will retire What is your guess speeds?
Re: UFC & GSP to host 'special media conference call' tomorrow at 2.30pm et Rumor making rounds on twitter that GSP is vacating title and it has been reported by some reputable mma sources.
Re: GSP vacates title to take time away from sport Confirmed. GSP is stepping away for a while. Bring on the WW tournament!
Re: UFC & GSP to host 'special media conference call' tomorrow at 2.30pm et This is what I was expecting (easy for me to say after the fact I suppose). You don't call a presser to announce you are going to continue to fight. The UFC elbowing their way into the press conference (GSP had announced it on his own previously) only reassured me that he was stepping down and the UFC wanted to save face a little by making it a joint announcement.
Re: UFC & GSP to host 'special media conference call' tomorrow at 2.30pm et Hendricks vs. Lawler Condit vs. Brown Winner vs. Winner for vacant title. Fair?
Re: UFC & GSP to host 'special media conference call' tomorrow at 2.30pm et Should say that I expected him to step away but not to retire. Fighters seldom retire and when they do they almost always come back again.
Re: GSP vacates title to take time away from sport I expected him to vacate and step away. I think his blown out knee had a major impact on him fight wise. He hasn't looked the same since the injury. I think Lawler vs Hendricks should be the fight for the vacated title. I think Hendricks deserves a title fight, not a tournament.
This is a bit shocking: When Dana White was ranting at the post-fight press conference after UFC 167, GSP was getting stitches. At no point was GSP headed to the hospital or advised to go to one. On his way to the presser, a UFC official intercepted GSP and told him not to attend, but he went anyway. The UFC was trying to keep GSP away from the presser which is maybe why Dana felt entitled to rag on him for a solid fifteen minutes. When GSP showed up, White clammed up. This is all according to GSP today. I think we need Inspector Jake Shields to see if something shady was afoot.
speeds once you find a link to the conference can you post it up? I was at the gym and now I've got to go to work. I'd love to watch it tonight. I honestly hope GSP never comes back. Not because I don't like him, just because he seems checked out from fighting. He seems exhausted by it. I hope he can find happiness away from the sport and sustain that happiness.
