I mentioned in a previous thread, but I have always felt MVP consideration was like getting a ball rolling down a hill. It'll take a lot to succesfully get it down the hill, but once it gets going, people will continue to repeat it. It gets repeated enough, and then writers start to look at it more and more seriously. And then there's times where guys do it because it's not casting a vote for the same old guy as before. That being said, he and our team obviously need continue some semblance of this play through the season for him to get any sort of serious consideration.
Doug Gottlieb gave LMA some MVP love on his radio show today, focusing primarily on the fact that he's the best player on a winning team, but also mentioning how consistently good he's been. Which, BTW, is a really good point. According to basketball-reference's game log, he's only had 2 games so far with a "game score" below 10, he's scored in double figures every game, only had fewer than 6 boards 3 times, only shot below 40% for a game 4 times, only 4 games above 3 turnovers. His 30-20 games are what have gotten him noticed, but his consistency is more impressive to me.
Consistency has always been the name of the game with LMA. He rarely misses a game and always puts up solid numbers. The difference is now, "solid" has become borderline great every game.
I love that he's getting some love, and he should be on the list of dark horse contenders, but let's be serious, as good as he's been there are better candidates. player comp of Aldridge, James, Durant, George, love and Paul http://bkref.com/tiny/QBo6x
I had Paul on that list also, who isn't at 20ppg either. But a PG (Paul or Nash) is often measured in assists. PFs are usually measured in ppg, rpg and bpg. I'm not saying he shouldn't get considered, but James is ahead by a mile. Then, far back, are the others on the list. If I had to rank I would put LMA 4th.
This, I can see the others as competition but love is a level below the rest based primarily on the fact his team sucks with him.
I agree, but his stats are impressive. 23.9/13.8/4.2, which looks a lot better than LMAs 23.5/10.6/2.7 But his D is much worse, he doesn't command the same attention, and his teams never win. Although to be fair they have had one of the toughest schedules so far, and their "star" pg is one of the worst shooters in modern nba history. For me, I rank 1 - James 2 - Durant 3a - George 3b - Aldridge 5- Chris Paul 6 - maybe love, but I'd have to look at a few others like Curry, Howard and Hibbert.
StatLove is just a SG in a PF body. He should be playing SF. At least then, you can bring a true PF and Center to do what they are supposed to do.
Most. Aldridge is one of a small handful of PF's with post moves nowadays. As far as defense, a decent amount. Fitting both your criteria how bout Griffin? Terrence Jones? David Lee? JJ Hickson?
Must be Kevin....must be Kevin...must be Kevin, Kevin Love! What PF makes 8 of 9 threes? If anything, Love should be a SF, not a SG. Although I don't know if he's quick enough to be a SF. Is he?
Love isn't the main problem on that team. Rubio can't shoot a lick and they just paid Pek a butt-ton and he's the wrong type of C to pair with Love. Pek is good and should have trade value for a different team. Don't get me wrong, I think LMA is far better than love, but love isn't bad an isn't a SG. He's a top 5 PF in the league, worts and all.
I'm extremely proud of this kat. Instead of pouting, withdrawing, throwing the towel in and waiting for the team to move him. He has done the exact opposite and proven to be something I never knew we had in him. Granted, I always knew he was a player. But he has taken on a role and is doing things I would have never expected out of him.
