I like these a lot but picture the home jerseys the same but with black shots and white top. Away the same but black shorts red top with a wight stripe instead of the red stripe and ripcity in white as well. This would be something different & new. I think that would be really cool just having a different color top and bottoms that match but are different in color. Question is will the Blazers be ballsy enough to try something like this?
We don't need wholesale change. A blend of modern and retro: Keep the current colors/template for the white and black jerseys. Untilt the pinwheel and use it, on its own, as the primary logo. No parallelogram or words. It is iconic enough on its own. Then, use the retro lower case font and have "blazers" on the white and "portland" on the black. We can then have 2 alternate jerseys that can be what ever. Maybe do the retro red with the underlined Portland as that was a great jersey. the other alternate could be some new style entirely, maybe with sleeves for those who like (I personally hate the sleeve look). That would make for a great lineup and great merchandise. The current merchandise line is just lame and boring and keeps me from spending money, something I'm sure the organization would like to change.
Where are you from? Blazers fans are obsessed with the mythical history and legacy of their beloved Blazers. This isn't some fly-by-night backwater town desperate to generate interest in their NBA franchise. The Blazers don't need gimmicks like an overhaul of their colors, which would be turning their back on their culture, their history, and their devoted fans. That would be the absolute stupidest out of touch thing the Blazers management could do. Did you not see the discontent with changing the name of the fucking arena? You might as well ask the Nebraska Cornhuskers to change their colors from Red to Blue as to ask Blazers fans to accept the same. It's a stupid idea.
This is pretty much my feelings too. It might be short sighted for Blazer fans to have such a connection to the colors/logo/uniforms, but I think it's great to have basically a similar uniform style since 1977. Drastic changes (such as color changes, or total rebranding) are signs of desperation. The uniforms do need some tweaking, but not a drastic change of what they're doing, but a return to a simpler look would be preferable. The red alternatives are really good, and what I hope they use them as a starting point as they head forward. The Rip City uniforms are actually my favorites and I wouldn't mind them being the main uniforms (either as Rip City or Portland). I like them the best because they resemble/play homage to the original uniforms and don't look super dated.
I agree, julius. Pay homage to Blazers history and tradition. Sometimes, tradition and continuity is a good thing. Supporting irrational devotion to a sports team is one of them.
Who's talking about an overhaul change of colors? I'm talking about different color but matching shorts and shirts. Keep the same colors, logo, and pinwheel, pinstripes what have you. You call that a major overhaul?
So, take one of our retro jerseys, add sleeves and pair the top with shorts that don't match colors and have pinstripes? Brilliant.
