Not a bad signing but really was hoping for a more permanent solution. We all know Roberts injury history. Arod as most have guess will miss most if not all of the season. Who plays 3rd? I just think they are taking a flyer again this year and we will be right where we were last season. They really need to shore up the pitching if they have any chance next season.
LOL! You mean, let's not act like the guy has missed a total of 456 games out of a possible 648 over the last 4 seasons? He's played an average of 48 games/yr over those last 4 years. He hasn't played baseball regularly in 5 seasons. I think the question is how can someone with half a brain spin it any other way? Oh, and he'll be 37 next year on top of not playing close to regularly in the past 4 years. Seriously - who IS gonna play 2B next for this team. This signing addresses nothing.

They offered Infante 3/24, and he ended up signing for 4/30. So the answer is to sign Roberts instead? Why can't they just address the position with something substantive/longer-term then throw $$$ at a guy who hasn't played close to regulary in the last 4 years?

No, I feel they will give Roberts 2B and I think you are going to be looking at a platoon of Reynolds and Johnson at 3B. If Roberts goes down then they will go with Anna. Now is time to spend money on pitching. Tanaka, and I pray a closer. I wonder where this puts us in regards to the 189 mandate. Rick, I wanted Infante, like a lot of other posters on this board did because he created flexibility and could hit for a descent average. However, I like what the Yankees are doing as far as the position player are concerned. Roberts is a question mark. But only a 1 year question mark. There was never going to be a replacement for Cano per say, but regardless on how it turns out, and given their total lack of resources in trades, then I am on board. The question marks are now all in regards to pitching. In a perfect world, wouldn't it be nice that guys like, Manny B, Heathcott, Austin, and the guys rebound and have a stellar minor league season given them assets for trades next year or even this year come the deadline. So now pitching, Tanaka holds the key and I feel the financial restraints that we have seen of late is to be able to allow Tanaka and a closer. The experts think Tanaka will go for 100 mil+ for 6 years. If the team I root for is willing to gamble 100 mil on a unproven player here in the states, then there is no way I am going to bash what they have done this winter. They have rebuilt on the fly, the unknowns such as injuries and such aside, we are better today then at this time last year with exception of Mo, who we knew was leaving and just like with Cano, there is no replacing Mo.
And in addition, the flexibility this lineup has now with 3 switch hitters is an asset. We also have added contact hitters that will drive opposing pitch counts up a wall and increase our on base percentages. It's not the best Yankee lineup in the last 10 years but it's better than last year. Now I see we added Thornton, at least he is a lefty.
I always liked Roberts as a player, dude has moxie, hustles. He has missed a lot of time since '10 and I view him in the same manner as a car I once had. Back in'78 I bought a new MGB Roadster, great when new but after one year it came to like the shop more than the road. When it ran it was a runner. If Roberts can stay healthy I belive he will make nice contributions and I think a platoon of he and Johnson will work. I like the flex and the addition of a switch hitter. Last year as we know Cashman raided the dumpster after sitting on his can. This year he's got some good stuff. I think Roberts will be OK but they need to raise the bar on pitching if they go out looking/
