2 year deal 7 mil. Good replacement for Logan. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/12/17/yankees-sign-matt-thornton/
So your a fawner huh? Is there 12 steps to recovery? People just refuse to understand that except for money, we have no other assets to use in retooling. I think the Yankees have done a great job this off season and they are not done. I feel everything as far as playoffs and more comes down to Tanaka anyway. Most teams take 3 to 5 years to rebuild. We have added a very versatile group of position players and now to pitching. I will go on record that I feel we need Balfour, I don't think Robertson is a closer.
...lol...yeah, I like Balfour also...and who knows, maybe they can add someone in return for one of their OFers.
Thorton gives up less HR against lefties, which is plus for him, otherwise he and Boone are similar against LH, but Logan is better against RH batters, Thorton should see no such hitter as a Yankee.
Thornton's career numbers vs LHB - K/W ratio 3.94 BAA .233 OBP .297 ** SLG% .351 ** Better than Logan's, and If Thornton is going to be used primarily as a lefty "specialist", it's all about getting out LHBs and NOT allowing them to reach base.
...the thing that irritated me most about the use of Logan is that Joe would bring him in for a high leverage AB vs a LHed batter and after doing his job by getting the LHed batter out, Joe would leave him in to face the next batter/s who were RHed and who seemed to always get the better of Logan...I mean why play the odds and bring in a lefty specialist in the first place and then turn around and reduce your odds by having him face RHed batters? ...the 7th and/or 8th innings can be just as crucial as the 9th, so after getting the LHed batter out why not immediately bring in a RHed reliever who is tough on RHed batters?...or is it just me?
