Today's Daily news throws out these names that the Yankees may want to take a flier on as a possible quick fix like they did 3 seasons ago with guys like Freddy Garcia & Bartolo Colon.

    Bronson Arroyo
    Johan Santana
    Roy Oswalt
    Paul Maholm
    Erik Bedard
    Jason Hammel
    Barry Zito
Mark Mulder ( hasn't pitched in years)

I'm sick and tired of these retreads. Go with our in hose people. A 4.50 era can be had by all of them. Maybe we can develop some of our own. Pineda is no more a gamble than Santana or Mulder or Bedard for instance. What's the difference you ask, 10 years younger, has had success, won't be the only pitcher to return from Tommy John surgery. Get my point. I posted the average #4 and #5 starters era's a while back. Forge the names, they are interchangeable, it's the stats, and I feel that Pineda, Phelps, Nuno, Manny B, and the gang gives us the same but with a bigger upside.

CC, Kuroda, Nova and Pineda all have spots as far as I'm concerned, until we hear that Pineda is not good to go he's penciled in, and they have enough (Warren, Nuno, Phelps) to cover his spot should he go down, I suppose they could all compete, but either way that spot should be considered taken.

So they need one starter IMO, and I hope they try for better than that list, offer one of the young catchers and Gardner in a package with others, not sure the guy is out there to be had but the Yankees really do need a front line arm first, an innings eater second.

Might take a flier on Arroyo but the rest can fly to whatever strip they wish to land on. Then again Arroyo wants too much money, but I heard Minny is interested. Rusty & Major I agree, Yanks should stand fast, look at what is in house, make the pitching coach earn his pay for a change.

I'm in full agreement guys. Its time they got away from the band-aid mentality & try going with more in house solutions.

Arroyo is also looking for AT LEAST 2 years. On this guy only because of his durability. 32+ starts over the last 9 years. I would go 1 year with a team option for a 2nd. BTW: he's also had a sub 4.00 ERA in 4 of his last 5 seasons.

    Mission Impossible -

Yanks drafting/acquiring and developing a young lefty starter with a live fastball and a crackling sharp breaking ball of some kind.

Keep your fingers crossed on Nova - if he continues to progress and be consistent the Yanks just may stumble (one way or another) into having a good young starting staff.
