In our past 11 games we have given up 3 or more goals.... my god how has it come this. I think we all agree that torts probably had to go but what I would give for some good defense and goaltending right now.

Its beating a dead horse but this team is travelling right toward drafting in the top 8 this year... which again might not be such a bad thing.

No, no, no, no. Top 5. Maybe first overall.

We need to remember the comment, anything can happen that is why they play the games.

With that said, this team is bad. Flat out bad. Unless lightning strikes from out of LF this team is going nowhere this season. Just the way it is.

I would love a top 5 pick. I much rather have a top 5 pick than slip in at 7 or 8. That would be much better for this franchise going into next season.

I would also look to deal every single free agent we do not plan to re-sign. Now I personally think we will re-sign Cally for 100% sure. And I lean towards us re-signing Girardi as well. But if we are not going to re-sign them, and we haven't re-signed them by the trade DL, they need to be dealt, along with any other free agents we don't think we'll re-sign.

MDZ, Boyle, Pyatt, Stralman, Moore, Pouliot, on and on. We need to be smart here. If we aren't bringing them back, we must deal them this season.

And our focus should be on next season and the season after with those deals. With all our cap space this summer, and maybe a top 5 pick, we need to be focused on the next two seasons only. That should be the sole focus. This is the time. The last time we can do this with Hank in his prime. I wish Sather wasn't the guy in charge of this miny re-build, but that is what it is. All we can do is hope he wakes up and it's 30 years ago for him mentally...LOL.

Sather needs to retire, but he won't. These guys think they know better than anyone else. I watched an interview the other day with Steve Nash from the Lakers. He won't retire either, even though he is the only one who doesn't see that he is absolutely killing his team with his cap hit yet he never plays anymore due to one injury or another. Sather has done some good things but he is IMO a part time GM who should spend 100 percent of the rest of his time on a golf course somewhere and not the 95 percent of the time he spends there now.

Who to replace him is a good question.

"If they opt not to hire Dudley, the Sabres can go out and hire one of the smartest, CBA-memorizing, contract-negotiating and player-evaluating assistant GMs in the league. If you look right now at the general managers who are successful, it's not necessarily the star former players. It's high-level thinkers like Peter Chiarelli (Boston), Dean Lombardi (Los Angeles), Ray Shero (Pittsburgh) and Stan Bowman (Chicago). "

Again though. If Pitt and Chicago don't tank seasons on purpose or have a lottery fixed for them because their sad fan base didn't support the team, those 2 organizations win nothing.

Every GM is stupid at times. Trading Seguin for what they got in return has turned out to be moronic.

I'm sure Sather would use a top 5 pick on some obscure 5"6" 160 lb prospect that no other team would even consider taking until the 7th round. What also sucks is that Glen is President and GM of the Rangers doubly cursing them with his imcompetence. The old man should at least hire a GM to help with personnel decisions.

I wonder if there is anyway we can lure JD back. No shot it happens, but I would have faith in him to get it done.

My guess is Gorton steps in if Sather leaves though. I guess he deserves a shot.

If we had even a decent GM I would be a lot more excited about this summer. Top 5 pick and tons of cap space, with a solid base around Step, Cally, Nash, Kreider, Hank, McDonagh is something to be exicted about for next season. BUT I have very little faith in Sather to make the right moves, so I am skeptical we can turn it around in one summer.

    We'll see...

Just dumbfounding why he stopped using Talbot every 5 games when he was doing well. He had one poor game which wasnt even awful.

With this roster, yes. With a remade roster in the offseason without half the forwards being grinders we will see

Exactly. I have little doubt that this exact team would be better if Torts was here still, how can it not be, but that still isn't good enough. One step back for two steps forward. That's how I view this season. And if we can add a top 5 or so pick to a ton of cap space this summer, we can be right near the top next season.

The defense has been garbage. Girardi is so bad lately it's unbelievable.
