Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... Umm... anyone read SI.com? They did a pictoral of the 15 players most likely to break out of each conference. Here's the link to the West one: SI's West BreakoutsMy only real issue with the list is the inclusion of Rashad McCants, not because I think he sucks,But didn't he have microfacture surgery? How's he gonna break out the YEAR he had the surgery?Weird...
Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... I really don't get it either. It seems like it was written by someone who doesn't follow the L that closely.
Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... I don't really agree with many of these. Chuck Hayes? He's just an undersized, undertalented all heart player, Tyson Chandler never puts the work in, Stromile Swift is lazy...etc..Rashad McCants has a bad injury and plays with guys who love to shoot with Davis, Foye and James. Whoever did this is an idiot.
Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... Well the thing with break out players are they are the ones people don't expect. So most of their picks I'm fine with because it's an iffy prediction thing anyway.
Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... <span style="font-family:Book Antiqua">Yeah, I have to agree with most. If SI is wrong, though, I'll puke on their magazines.</span>

Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... Biedrins and Banks are the only ones that I can see coming close. Beans averaged around 8 and 10 when he got 20 + minutes a game last year and he can easily do that in a running system.
Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... Mccants is going to have serious knee surgery, I don't think he'll have a GREAT season...
Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (austingriz76 @ Oct 12 2006, 09:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I dont get it...they put Stro but not Hak?:g:</div> Thats because Hakim Warrick is just not that good of a player. He gets abused as a PF in the post and he has no perimeter skills to play SF. Thats why in my opinion he will never make a solid impact in the NBA.
Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... Guys, SI is a bunch of guys who watch highlights and look at video game ratings. None of them actually watch basketball, much like most NBA analysts. You can't take any of this that seriously
Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... Hes been working out with Melo, Wagner and Cuttino Mobley, he has also been getting bigger. From just one preseason game, you can tell he can hit from the outside, he developed a good jumper over the summer. People who went to the grizzlies open practice said he knocked down about three 3's in a row, he has a perimeter game now. So dont judge a player you havent seen play at all in the NBA, much less this season.
Re: SI's Breakout Stars problem... whoa... I made up a list almost exactly to this one and posted it here way before this article was written.Anyways, My thoughts:Marcus Banks- He has a shot, He has to play with Steve Nash and Barbosa though.Andris Biedrins- I called it for him to win the most improved player award, So you know I agree with this pick. He isa good shot blocker, Decent rebounder, Tremendous upside. Did I mention he is only 20 years old? I hope Don Nelson inserts him into the starting line-up.Kwame Brown- I dont see him improving that much more than he has already, Maybe add an extra rebound or 2.Jackie Butler- I like what I see from him, Why the hell the Knicks let him go I have no idea. He should get a decent amount of playing time in San Antonio.Chuck Hayes- I also picked him earlier to breakout, The Rockets dont have many solid options at the PF position. He is one of the best per minute rebounders in the entire league (which the article states) I expect big things from him.Josh Howard- In my opinion he already had his breakout season last year, He averaged 15-8 and played a huge role in the Mavericks success.Jarrett Jack- This is his year to start, He is an amazing playmaker.Shaun Livingston- He played well in the playoffs last season, He started off strong during the preason.Kevin Martin- With Bonzi Wells in Charlotte.. This is his time to shine. He is a pretty decent scorer when given playing time. He averaged 11 pg on 48% shooting last season. A remarkable percentage for a guard.Rashad McCants- Arn't rookies expected to breakout during there sophmore year? They are expected to improve there game. Stupid pick here.J.R. Smith- At first, It sounded as if he was ready to take his game to an all star level. Now Coach Karl is thinking about starting Yakhouba Diawara at the 2 spot. That worries me that Smith has not improved much from last season.
