Re: Exploiting opponent's weaknesses Here's some things that I always evaluate when I'm guarding someone...-Their handedness and strength with their opposite hand: if someone is weak with their other hand, it'a an easy game. I just shift to a side so they can't go in without using their weak hand... I love that-Their ball handling style: I always look if they like to cross over a lot, or are flashy... it's fun making the opponent keep losing the ball bacause I keep tipping it out when he dribbles.Any pointers of what else I should look for? I want to get really good at defense, and I'm working hard on my post defense (which really sucks)
Re: Exploiting opponent's weaknesses For post defense, it really just helps to be a big man. Long arms really help a lot, but these are two things you can't control. When you are guarding in the post, the main thing is to not let the person back you down and get closer to the hoop. Stay solid and don't let down. If he goes up for the shot, either try to block it (know that refs will most likely call a foul even if there is no contact, but sometimes they won't, so you have to be careful here) or just stand up straight and keep yoru arms straight up and high. It is hard to shoot over someone accurately like that.
Re: Exploiting opponent's weaknesses I really look for player's defensive tendencies more than their offensive ones. If they like to sag off or they lose focus easily, I have a hayday. I like finding openings on the perimeter and making them pay. I'll also give more shot fakes if a player is over aggressive.offensively, if a player is really really slow or has no confidence in their ballhandling, I will crowd them. Otherwise, I usually back off pretty far (I'm slow). My long arms allow me to play worse defense and get away with it. muahahaha!
Re: Exploiting opponent's weaknesses I pretty much stick my hands out and follow the ball around with 'em. When the dribbler tries to do anything, I usually tap the ball away. I may not get a lot of steals, but I do get a lot of defensive stops.
Re: Exploiting opponent's weaknesses Wut I do is just put my hands out in front of them, if they start posting up against me, I fake a reach towards the left(then they bring the ball ro the right), but what they dont know is in a split second im on the right about to steal the ball. Also, when jumping to block a ball, never jump forward, jumo straight, you wont foul them and you have a better chance of blocking the ball.
Re: Exploiting opponent's weaknesses READ THIS What I try and gage is my oposing players mental strength. I say things like *with a concerned look* Are you ok man? Your looking a bit sick! -- For some players this is enough to put them off thier game. Give some players a reason to play bad they often will!!!I also look for the biggest ego (stole this from somewhere, and it works really well) and I go up to them at a quarter break and ask innocently "man why is your point guard dogging you? , seems like he's shutting you out?, Your the best player on the team, Why aint you getting the ball?" Often they will then go yell at team mates! Also little things get into a weqak players mind. Like talking to the referee. When you player is in the Key tell the ref, give it a second and tell the ref "he's still in here sir" - That REALLY pisses some guys off!little things like that can give you the advantage over other players, better than you or not. Try these things they work!!

Re: Exploiting opponent's weaknesses Well me on offense.. it doesn't matter, I can just manipulate any guy and the get an easy layin while he looks at my shiny ass.Man I owned playing kings court yesterday... shouldve seen me.
Re: Exploiting opponent's weaknesses If the player is all about their speed and dribbling than I would sag on them forcing them to shoot outside. As soon as they look like they are about to shoot I would flash by them as fast as I can to contest the shot. It takes a lot of energy to defend this way but it works for me.
Re: Exploiting opponent's weaknesses I was a point guard, so I usually guarded the other teams point guards, so my down low post defense was not the greatest. However, something I did, was hit some chest workouts, and got my chest muscles somewhat strong so when I was down low I would just bump people with my chest and play like a bully a bit. As soon as someone comes in the lane Harass them, when the ball isn't there bump with your chest. Most everyone gets mad when you play a bit rough, are more likely to foul you at the other end, and play sloppy with the ball when angry.

I just know how not to foul and it;s mad funny when you get the other guy mad.
