I've just been meeting more people who have a bug-out-bag somewhere for just in case emergencies.

For those unaware what a bug out bag is, it's a bag full of all the emergency supplies you might need for in case of natural disaster, societal breakdown, or any other emergency. Most seem to be everything one might need for 3 days, while others are for a week. Some are designed to just get you a few days before everything returns, while others are meant as a doomsday companion, with stuff you may need in case normal life never returns.

I have some emergency supplies at my house, but not an actual bag. But considering the likelihood of a very large earthquake which could topple many houses, kill electricity, cause hundreds of large fires and so on, I think I may put together a bag.

Some of the more common items people have are 3 days water, 3 days food, warm wool clothing, rain gear, medical kit including a backup of any meds you take, as well as bandages and stuff like that. Water filter. Weapons, from knives to guns. A shortwave radio, flashlights and extra batteries for both. fix-it stuff like zipties, duct tape, superglue, paracord. a book. more.

Anyway, who has made one? Thoughts?

I know more than a few people who are survival nuts, with extensive bug out bags.

    I have guns.

That means I can have my neighbors bug out bag anytime I want.

But what if your neighbor has:

    A) Bigger guns

    B) More guns

    C) Better training with said guns

I know a guy that has a bunker with supplies for a year. I have a few supplies but not a bag. Might be a good idea to have. I did buy my brother a Zombie Survival kit for Christmas. He a Zombie nut but the kit has great supplies.

Seems like most people who have bug out bags also have a means to protect them. Also, let's say you have to leave home for a week due to some temporary (fixable) problem, like earthquakes, do you really want to deal with the repercussions of armed burglary (or worse) once the emergency passes?

Trust me, if there's an earthquake in Portland, the city will be decimated. It will be longer than 2 weeks.

Not only do you need a bugout bag, but you need an exit strategy to egress out of the city. I think a lot of people will try to head towards the coast range. Highway 26 will be a disaster.
