On making moves, “They are capped out and have huge financial concerns next year. They gotta sign Girardi, Brassard and Ryan Callahan is unrestricted. Their captain and one of their top three D need new contracts and if they both ask for absolute market value they can’t keep both. They have money tied up, the money will go up but not as fast as the Rangers would like it.”

On Brad Richards, “gotta buy him out. I think so. Unless he comes back and plays like a legit number one center and you have reason to think he will continue down that road. Flashes of being pretty good won’t be good enough. I think they will have no choice but to use the compliance buyout and free up some cap space.”

Sometimes you shake your head. Where does he come up with this stuff? Capped out. Can't afford both Cally and Girardi. Simply lost. I think we can bring Cally and Girardi for 10-11 mill total if we want to. And if Girardi wants to make 6 mill +, goodbye. We can bring someone else in for 4 mill or so.

Did he do any homework at all or just spew BS???

Girardi is still very highly regarded around the league when you listen to the analysts. That could be good if we try and deal him before the trade DL.

But my bigger issue with his comment is how are we capped out? Buyout Richards and we are 37.5 mill under the cap. Unless you think Girardi and Cally get 15 mill combined, I don't see how we are capped out or can't afford both if we want them both back.

I say 10-11 mill total gets them both.

The Rangers would like to move Michael Del Zotto and/or Brian Boyle (Pierre LeBrun on TSN 1050).

Boyle is someone who could be moved out West (LeBrun)

Tons of cap space without Richards but will they finally use it well? At least get 75% of it right.

I agree sc. They may totally F it up. But it just shows how utterly lost McKenzie is when he makes those comments. If you are going to be an expert analyst, at least get your facts straight. What he said is just flat out wrong. Combined we are looking at 3 mill or so total in a raise for Cally and Girardi IMO (they make 7.6 mill combined now). Unless he thinks they are both getting 6 mill + per each, and even then we can clearly afford that if we wanted to, he has no idea what he is talking about.

This kind of stuff angers me because it is shotty work by McKenzie and shows he did no homework at all.

You wonder how much research these 'analysts' do before they open their mouths. Especially Mckenzie who's supposed be some kind of CBC guru.

Right, that's my point. He'd look flat out stupid if someone actually took a minute to call him on it or actually do some research on what he said.

We might choose to let one or both go, especially if someone will way overpay for them (6 mill or more per), but we will not lose them because we cannot afford to keep them if we really wanted to.

    Funny stuff.

Its embarrasing actually for someone like that in Canada. I could see if it was Joe Schmo from the Miami Herald.

Analyst on hockey generally have no clue about the Rangers. For starters, they have dismissed almost every prospect they had the past 8 years and the Rangers have produced as many young, good, NHL players as any team in hockey the past 8 years and they don't tank season to get super high picks. So, he probably figures they have to resign every UFA they have coming up. Wrong. Miller is going to replace somebody. McIlrath will replace somebody. Lindberg and Kristo could replace somebody. Skjei might do the same.

According to the Ottawa guy on Hockeybuzz Ottawa offered Gryba, Condra and Greening for Del Zotto but the rangers turned the offer down
