Jesus ascended up through the atmosphere into outer space, that's could be considered flying.

This is a particularly interesting sentiment to me because the exact same claim is made on both sides. Many Christians complain that atheists often act smug and morally superior".

I think both sides need a little humility, myself included. I know I have looked down at certain people for holding the beliefs they hold. And I'll continue since I find literal interpretations completely bat-shit crazy. But I need to find a way to stop looking down at the person who holds the belief, and instead just look down at the belief itself. A recognition that the person still holds value can only benefit all parties.

Also, I am finally realizing if I live to a thousand years old I will have successfully convinced zero true believers to turn away from god. Ill never succeed at that endeavor, but if I instead simply be friends and show respect to true believers, perhaps they will have a better view of atheists. Then if life brings them to someday question religion on their own, they might be more likely to not shun the idea of atheism since they will have friends and respectful relationships with atheists.

So on that note, merry Christmas, happy Chanukah, merry quanza, happy festivus, happy everyday, happy winter solstice, no matter your philosophical/religious/spiritual leaning. And a happy new year.

I don't look down on people who believe, but yes, I do look down at the belief itself. Try to concoct a more disgusting universe. The most terrible universe imaginable is one where people are tortured for eternity with no end or hope for reprieve. And Christianity only beats that by a little bit, because a few people can be saved if they believe in some whacky human sacrifice with no evidence. And we're supposed to remember to celebrate that as "the reason for the season".

Whatever Grand wazoo one chooses to emulate, in the words of Frank Zappa, "Sometimes you have to put on the grass skirt and eat the bowl of worms!" In the words of Lao Tzu....be like water! Whatever gives you the greatest joy, I hope you never thirst! I wish you all days filled with joy!

I love Christmas! I don't think of it as a religious holiday cause, well, it's not one for me. Any holiday can be a religious holiday for religious people. No holyday can be religious for me. I'm still fully capable of appreciating the message of spreading love and joy to family and friends (and strangers!)

I don't buy extravagant gifts, but I pride myself on being able to get people little things they will definitely use and like, but probably never would have bought for themselves.

Yep, i've never really thought about it as a religious holiday either. It's just a nice day to spend with family and give gifts.
