Thinking about the term "elite", I don't know that there are currently ANY elite teams in the league. Of course there are small handful of very good title-favorites, but I don't think anyone is truly elite these days. The Heat might work their way back to that level by the end of the season.

If you get this right, mags, I'll marry your daughter (which is an incredible honour in Iran, mind you). ;)

Still coping with grief over Oden/Roy? It's different for different people. I've moved on. You'll get there too. ;)

I'm interested to see how they do on the road against the elite of the league....but a losses to those teams mean little to me. There's no shame in loosing to an elite team on their court. It's to be expected much of the time, even for other elite teams. But wins against the elites on the road are SWEET, and if they can win most of these upcoming road trip games, it will help confirm what I think now....that they are a contender.

The defense is a work in progress. I'm encouraged that they have proven they can be an elite defensive team at crunch time. I don't see why they can't build on that as the season wears on, and I expect they will.

I can say this team is fun team to watch, and it's been a while since that was so. Good guys playing hard...and winning. How can you not savor the moment when things are going so well for the guys? It's hard to imagine how anyone would be happier watching the team compete for the best lotto pick.

    Go Blazers

In regards to the original question: Why would we want to drop down to the level of the so-called elite teams? We're number one, baby.

Dominique Wilkins just picked Portland to win the NBA championship (NBATV), "I really like that team." Barry called it a "bold prediction."
