Just had computer in shop over security issue. Ever since I got it back, every time I start computer, it wants to download Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) but it won't install.

The download works, but when I click install I get this:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "PRO11.MSI" in the box below."

Box below is "use source", and entered is:
    "C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9\"

    The down arrow leads to:

    "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003"

Whichever I click, it doesn't work.
No other updates can install because they are stuck in queue behind SP3 which won't install and I can't cancel it.

Aside from getting a new version of Office (and I'm not sure that would work, or if it would keep all my old stuff), any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Call the shop?

Maybe that MSI file is on the office 2003 CD. Try putting that in the drive?

If you have the office disc, it might be worth going into the control panel -> add/remove programs and select the option to repair your office installation, but you're going to need the installation files or just reinstall over the top of your existing program.

If you can live without office you can always remove the program entirely and there are some great free office replacements floating around out there like LibreOffice that are .doc compatible, but your mileage may vary if you do a lot of visual basic programming in excel or make liberal use of .docx or .xlsx file types.

    Nik's on the right track.
Sounds like the shop cleared out the install/uninstall files for Office. So it doesn't know how to update itself so to speak. You'd need to grab the original disk containing the "Pro11.MSI" file and either copy it to your HDD and point the SP3 install to it (like it's asking) or pop the disk in and point it there.

Happens all the time in the IT world.

Unfortunately I don't seem to have the disk. I put in a call to the place where I got the fix, they said they will call back. I just hope I don't have to schlep my computer over there again.

    Thanks.
