interesting that the selection committee has selected Cam as a starting six. The Rangers passed on him a couple of years ago at the draft, and was immediately taken by the Ducks with the next pick. I remember the Ducks' GM saying they couldn't believe he was still available and one of the panel members saying, that his " jaw dropped " when the Rangers didn't grab him. We of course chose McIlrath. I just hope this doesn't turn out to be another Hugh Jessiman fiasco. For Cam Fowler to make the USA squad as a 21 yr old is pretty impressive

I was surprised he made it over Yandle.

He doesn't bring anything to this team that we lack. He's just another soft defenseman who would be run over by Boston or just let Sid skate circles in our zone with no fear of being hit.

Plus, it's not that impressive when you consider Orpik made the team and I don't even think he's any good. IMO, Kreider should have made the team over Stepan. Kreider on that ice surface with his size would have been a terror out there. He would have given defenses a very, hard time. It was clear the Penguins coach wanted his crappy defenseman. I stress the word crappy. They can't ever play defense in a big spot. Martin, Fowler, Orpik? They will not medal with that defense.

Question dump. If we could deal McIlrath for Fowler right now would you do it?

And speaking of McIlrath, what is the deal with his knee? I never read anything after going for an MRI.

I think we all know the answer to that: McIlrath = GOAT, Fowler = scrub

that's an exaggeration, of course, but Dump has continuously said how he wants McIlrath to be that physical force in the blue line that can keep other team's honest, so he's a big McIlrath fan.

While i see and understand his point, i would prefer to have that Leetch-type D that we so desperately need and think Fowler can become. Being in ANA i def don't follow him enough, but this year he's playing at a 50-pt pace and we haven't had a D with that many points in over a decade.

I would never trade McIlrath for Fowler. I don't feel like watching the Bruins cheapshot our best forwards for another 10 years.

I can't believe Paul Martin made it either. That's a fairly weak corps with Fowler and Orpik also.

Interesting discussion regarding McIlrath. Right now he is nothing. Could be very good. Could be a total bust. Truth is we don't know anything really. With that said he is still very young, and the jury is 100% still out. So who knows how it will end up. All I know is I wish McIlrath was ready to play in the NHL now. It will take longer because of his style. Wonder when he will be NHL ready.

Chuck, he's taking longer because of his injuries otherwise I think he'd be up here already. And we have fowler types already. Without a Mcilreith type to protect them they become injured types. We will all be very happy once big mac gets up here, gets comfortable and starts cracking heads and giving our skill players some space :clap:

I remember is his first game he took a huge run at some forward on the other team. He missed, led to a goal but I was stunned because I never seen any of our candyass defenseman ever do that. If he connected on that guy, he would have been scraped off the ice. Kreider is starting to knock people down big time as a forward.

Yeah, and the next guy Kreider knocks down may be AV if he doesn't figure out a friggin way to get his best forward into the god damn 4 on 4 OT which he will excel in. Alright, Dump, we're all on pins and needles. Its time to unveil the next Dump...............now waste of space ranger. I have Moore at 1.5 to 1.

I don't disagree at all, BUT we don't really know on McIlrath let's be honest. We can't talk about him as a given or say once he gets comfortable up here...we don't know. He could be a huge bust. Or he could be great. Or he could be solid. We'll see...hopefully next season.

40 games and the moron has 0 G, 4 A, never hits anybody and takes a spot up that McIlrath should have.
