Dang it. Do players usually sit out games for an injury like this?

Tape the bad boy up and he will be good to go.

They can miss time but its not unusual for players to play through it. Depending on the finger he may just get it taped and play through it.

Considering he walked over to the bench, had it popped back into place real quick, and continued playing, I'd guess he'll play through it unless there is some kind of tear or excessive swelling that places it at risk to not heal if he continues playing.

    And now per Chris Haynes

@ChrisBHaynes: X-Ray reveals #Blazers Nicolas Batum suffered broken left middle finger 76ers loss, source informs @CSNNW. But not major. Will play on it.

Freak fracture. He just went for an intentional foul on MCW and it didn't appear to be anything hard enough to break a finger. I guess this is where you insert your favorite the French being soft joke...

Ya, it's not his shooting hand. Guess it got caught funny in MCW jersey. Tape it and forget about it.

Guess that explains Nico's not looking for his shot. He did have a double double though. It was his middle finger so that explains the intentional foul!

It happened at the end of the game. The rest of the game he was fine.

    French players might.

I'm surprised he hasn't waived the white flag yet, to be honest

Also, does anyone else think it's funny how nervous he looks around Dirk Nowitzki?

I dislocated or broke fingers playing basketball - in my younger days, of course.

For a dislocation, I'd have someone put the joint back together and I usually kept playing. I'd later go for an X-Ray to be sure it was all OK. Doctors would put a splint on the finger, which I'd move to the back side of my hand so I could touch the ball with my finger tips fine. After a while, I'd tape the sore finger to the one next to it. Either way, I was able to play fine with it - 100%, in fact. Even if I hurt a finger on my shooting hand.

    He should be fine.

Having a splint on your shooting hand didn't affect your shot? I find that hard to believe, unless your hands are made of granite...

Yes -- Batum's off hand. Denny said: "I was able to play fine with it - 100%, in fact. Even if I hurt a finger on my shooting hand."

I dislocated the finger next to my pinky on my shooting hand. It was sorta gross because it was hanging off the backside of my hand. I turned to the guy next to me and asked him to put it back, and he did. I played another 4 hours.

It swelled up quite a bit, and X-Rays are a good idea, so I went to the doctor's and he put a splint on it. It was like bendable sheet metal with padding. I took it off and put it on so it was on the back of my hand and taped it below the back of the finger tip.

Like I said, I had no problems playing the next day. I could dribble and shoot 100% as before. I played a lot of playground ball at DePaul as well as varsity. I didn't miss a day or a drill in practice.

At worst, he may reach or slap at the ball on defense less.

I've dislocated a finger on my shooting hand before. You just need to put it back in place and then tape it to the finger next to it. Just pain. Not that bad.

The splint looked like this one.

I also jammed the middle finger on my shooting hand. The knuckle got really swollen. It was in a splint, too. The knuckle is still 2x normal size, tho healed fully... It's been near 40 years.

After a couple weeks, I taped it to the one I later dislocated with cotton between the fingers.

I learned to shoot from Jerry West's book, "Basketball My Way." Dribbling and shooting are all about handling the ball with your finger tips. Shooting, the ball last touches your forefinger and middle finger tips.

I was 100% fine because my fingertips weren't covered by the splint.
