    More on the picks:

That SAC pick is top 12 protected this year. Could be the major piece in all this.

That's what I was thinking too. Adding Bynum could make Noah play PF, which allows them to amnesty Boozer.

Bynum going to get waived (to save cap room for Bulls) and then sign with someone. Probably Heat.

Yup. This was a salary dump by CHI. If they play Bynum, they will have to pay him his full contract.

But I doubt he ends up in MIA with GO already there. Possibly back in LA or NY. If he weren't such a headcase, I'd like him here as a backup big for the playoffs.

The pick is heavily protected (via Sacramento) until 2017 and if not received by then it turns into a second round pick, top-55 protected.

    Cleveland gave up nothing.

Man.... I would love to have Boozer on our bench. Doubt it happens but he would be amazing on our second unit.

Dumping Deng for cap space, hmm. It'll be interesting to hear Denny's take who has always said that Deng was a near all-star.

What did the Cavs gain by this? Do they think renting Deng for a few months will win them a title?

The Gasol trade actually made sense. This one.... not so much.

    To recap:

Deng rejected a 3 year $30m extension last week.

The two second rounders are from the Blazers via the Crabbe trade.

The first rounder from Sac is heavily protected until 2017, then it turns into a 2nd rounder, top-55 protected.

The right to swap picks in 2015 only happens if it's a non-lotto pick.

Yeah, that's the Blazers angle on this whole thing, methinks.

Bynum was not giving them anything, so a chance at resigning Deng was worth it for them. Very low risk in his deal.

    I'll put this out there....

For 12-ish mpg Bynum would be solid backing up Lopez.

Salary dump. At first glance I thought Cleveland was giving away a lot, now it doesn't.

Yes, adding a player who is a cancer and doesn't want to even play basketball anymore is the perfect player to add to the Blazers.

The Cavs gave up a pick that can be no higher than 12th this year or 10th next. They will have bird rights on Deng and can offer him more than any other team. They have a chance to see how he fits with the team and if he is happy with his role they would be the front runners to resign him. Deng may end up being the #1 free agent available this offseason. As crappy as the East is its not far fetched to think the Cavs could even make a run at HCA this season.

The Bulls save a ton of money, avoid a repeater luxury tax in future seasons, improve their draft pick and add some other draft picks.

I like this trade for both teams but more so for the Cavs. I don't think the Bulls will end up with a player of Deng's caliber even if they amnesty Boozer. Maybe they would make an offer to Melo but I'm not sure he is an all around upgrade and that is basically their dream scenario now. Most likely the Bulls settle for the 5th or 6th best free agent, and have to grossly overpay him; as they did when they originally signed Boozer.

    Follow the money.

Bulls management is cheap. Never liked paying the Luxury Tax. Paid it last year, was in LT payroll this season. Now they're not going to pay it.

The talk all along was they were going to amnesty Boozer this summer and re-sign Deng. From what I've seen of Bulls ownership and management, there's no way they'd amnesty Boozer because it would cut into their bottom line.

From management's point of view, he is leaving no matter what this summer. May as well get something for him, even if it's saving the LT payments.

I'd be on the lookout for where Taj Gibson is going to end up. Maybe Thibs is gone, too.

Great trade for both teams and the team who ends up with Bynum
