You must take situations into account though. The Knicks have been ravaged by injuries this year. Chandler missed a huge chunk of the season and their PG situation is a mess. JR Smith is playing some of the worst ball of his career and Iman Shumpert has been in a funk most of the year. A'mare Stoudemire is the most overpaid player in the league and Andrea Bargnani is starting for this team. I would never call this team as a whole a world class talent. Carmelo Anthony is the only reason they don't have the worst record in the league, whether people want to acknowledge that or not. Brooklyn on the other hand bet HARD on veterans that were already far past their prime. Deron Williams hasn't been THE Deron Williams for years now and Brook Lopez is hurt. They also have a head coach with no experience and no idea what he is doing. The Lakers also had a major problem with how the coach fit that roster last year. Phil Jackson would have gotten that team to put their personal issues aside and found ways to get everyone the ball. D'Antoni was one of the worst choices they could have gotten for a old team built around big men who like to post up and a ISO baller in Kobe. We are discussing Joakim Noah vs Lopez here. Noah is a fantastic team player. He is a fantastic defender and had had double digits in rebounding every year of his career except for his rookie season when he had 9.8. He passes the ball VERY well and would be a natural fit in Stotts system (4 apg last year!) Noah is also someone Olshey has tried to land in the past so he is one of the more realistic targets out there now that Chicago seems to be blowing it up.
First of all, I love Noah and would love to have him on this ball club. But you are not doing a swap of Lopez for Noah. You wanted to trade T. Rob, Lopez and Freeland for Noah. You just got rid of our "glue guy" anchor down low, which I believe Noah can fill in and be better at; but we become insanely thin. Who's gonna back up Noah and Aldridge?
No, it doesn't. Robinson has been replaced by Leonard in the rotation. If he is traded away we aren't losing anything from our bench right now. CJ hasn't played a game in the NBA yet, if we trade him we aren't harming the chemistry or hurting the current rotation. Lopez is leaving but being replaced with a better player. Chicago does the deal to get two young prospects at positions of need for them while also getting a guy who can play in Noahs role in the scheme.
Can we just wait until CJ plays first? He may become something very special for this ball club, especially since he's so much better at finishing around the basket.
I don't like trading CJ away. He could be a very good player. My thinking on this is Noah is a all star level player right now. You have so few opportunities to add a player of that caliber and we would then have 4 guys with all star level production and 1 guy with MVP level production in our starting lineup. Robinson and CJ could both be great players someday but our window is now with LMA. I really feel like we have to make the most of it. We can always add more guys off the bench for low salaries, like we did with Mo and Dorell last summer to fill out the roster and help fill in gaps.
No he hasn't. He average 5.6 REB/G his rookie year, 7.6 REB/G his second year and 9.8 REB/G in 2011-12. BNM
You make this trade and our season is over. Noah is the type of acquisition you get in summer, so you can implement him into the starting rotation. You get him now and he must relearn so much in so little time. We would not contend this season, which is something I am totally against.
Noah's the type of acquisition you get and then you go to the doctor to see if there's a shot he can give you for it.
The Bulls can't trade Noah and have any hope of keeping Rose happy. With those two pieces, they can fill in around them over the summer and field a competitive team.
So is K*be Bryant. So was Allen Iverson. So was Ruben Patterson. Doesn't mean I want any of them on my team.
